‘Game of Thrones’ Movie Reportedly in Development After Top Writer Delivers Script to Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. is reportedly moving forward with a “Game of Thrones” movie, with “House of Cards” creator Beau Willimon already submitting a first draft, Page Six Hollywood reports. While the project is in early stages, sources say the script focuses on Aegon I, the Targaryen king who united six of the seven kingdoms centuries before the events of the original series.

“All of ‘Game of Thrones’ stems back to him, and you’ve never seen him on any of the shows,” a source told Page Six Hollywood.

There’s still uncertainty about the project’s future because Warner Bros. is undergoing major changes, including the potential Paramount Skydance acquisition. Some industry insiders worry that the studio’s current slate might be paused during the regulatory process.

“Mike and Pam might try and accelerate the projects that they love, but there probably isn’t much,” a top manager explained.

Others are more optimistic. One agent claims, “They have to spend,” while another executive noted that the studio will need to continue production to keep operations running. Recently, Warner Bros. hired Mike Ireland as president of production, signaling the studio may still push forward on key projects.

Even with the shake-ups, Warner Bros. has several major films moving toward production. The Batman II sequel is set to start filming on May 29 in London, the next Minecraft movie begins May 1 in New Zealand, and James Gunn’s Superman sequel will shoot in Atlanta starting April 17. Additionally, a $90 million Nancy Meyers rom-com and a Conjuring prequel scheduled for September 2027 are also in the works.

The “Game of Thrones” movie would mark the studio’s return to one of its most lucrative franchises. While the project faces questions around the studio’s ownership and priorities, insiders say Warner Bros. is determined to make an impact.
