Antonio Banderas (65) Says One Moment Changed How He Sees Life Forever
Antonio Banderas says he is living a very different life today, and it all started after a major health scare that forced him to slow down and rethink everything.
In a recent interview, the actor explained that the experience became a wake-up call. It pushed him to focus on what truly matters instead of constantly chasing work. He said the moment changed how he sees life and made him more aware of his own mortality.
Before this turning point, Banderas had a busy lifestyle. He was often flying between countries like the United States and the United Kingdom for film projects. Afterward, he chose a quieter path. He stopped smoking, got rid of his private jet, and returned to his hometown of Malaga in Spain.
He now lives there with his partner, Nicole Kimpel, and spends much of his time working at his own theater, Teatro del Soho CaixaBank. The project is very personal to him and reflects what he feels is his true passion. He once said, I knew always [that I was going to die], but now I know. I’ve seen it right here.
Doctors had to place three stents in his arteries during his recovery, which made the situation even more serious. The experience left a strong impression on him and helped him realize what kind of artist he really is. He said, Faced with death, it made me look back and realize that I am, in fact, a theater actor.
Even though theater is now his main focus, Banderas has not fully stepped away from film. He continues to take on selected roles, including a recent appearance in Babygirl. He is also preparing for a new project where he will play a mentor figure connected to the life of Anthony Bourdain. At the same time, his theater in Malaga is getting ready to host an international dance event.
Looking back at his early years in Hollywood, Banderas also spoke about the challenges he faced. He said that at the start of his career, he was often limited to certain roles because of his background. Over time, he broke those barriers by playing heroic characters like Zorro and voicing Puss in Boots. He believes it is important for audiences, especially young viewers, to see positive characters with different accents and backgrounds.
His story shows how one moment can change everything. It is a reminder that success is not just about work, but also about balance and meaning. Slowing down can sometimes lead to a better life.
