Masters of the Universe is based on the classic Mattel toy line introduced in 1982. The franchise quickly expanded into animation with He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, which ran for two seasons and 130 episodes. The series also inspired the animated film The Secret of the Sword in 1985 and the spin-off She-Ra: Princess of Power. The franchise has been rebooted multiple times, including versions in 1990, 2002, 2018, 2021, and Netflix’s She-Ra and the Princesses of Power in 2018.
The movie is not yet rated and is scheduled to hit theaters on June 5.
This trailer gives fans a first glimpse of a modern, action-packed take on a beloved universe. Seeing Nicholas Galitzine step into the role of He-Man is both nostalgic and fresh, while the combination of Jared Leto as Skeletor and Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-at-Arms adds major star power. It’s clear the film is aiming to balance epic battles, character drama, and nods to the original series.
