Kate Beckinsale Calls Out Hollywood Sexism, Says Mark Ruffalo Escapes Backlash While She Got Fired
Kate Beckinsale has taken to social media to voice frustration over what she sees as a double standard in Hollywood. The actress commented on an Instagram post featuring Mark Ruffalo promoting the new film Palestine 36, a movie about the Palestinian revolt against British rule. While she supports Ruffalo’s activism, Beckinsale claims that she faced consequences for expressing similar views.
Beckinsale said that an agent, who represented both her and Ruffalo, dropped her after she liked a post supporting a Gaza ceasefire in November 2023. She wrote, “I guess having a p*** in Hollywood really counts for a lot because you’ve not been fired by the same Agent that I had.”
She added that she was on good terms with the agent before the incident. Beckinsale also referenced that she was let go on the same day as Susan Sarandon, who faced criticism for comments on Gaza, although Sarandon later apologized.
The actress tried to reach out to Ruffalo privately about the issue but claims he did not respond. She clarified, “I’m okay with him ignoring me,” but said it reflects what she feels is “male privilege even in the good guys.” Beckinsale emphasized that she is not blaming Ruffalo personally, but noted she is still noticing the difference in how men and women are treated.

Beckinsale also opened up about personal challenges during this period. She described coping with multiple losses, including the deaths of her mother, stepfather, and her cat, which compounded the stress of her professional situation. She said in December 2025, “It’s not like anorexia where you’re starving… it’s like your body has closed down. I think it’s shock and trauma.”
The comments Beckinsale made on Instagram were deleted shortly after posting, and representatives for both Beckinsale and Ruffalo, as well as the agencies involved, have not publicly commented.
This situation highlights ongoing conversations about gender, privilege, and activism in Hollywood. Beckinsale’s experience suggests that speaking out on political issues can carry different consequences depending on gender.
Beckinsale’s remarks underline an uncomfortable reality about Hollywood’s treatment of women versus men when it comes to activism and public statements. It’s a stark reminder that opportunities and protections are often uneven. What do you think about this story? Share your thoughts in the comments.
