‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ Closing in on Massive Box Office Record in 2026
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie continues to perform strongly in theaters, with its box office numbers showing steady momentum in its second weekend. The film, released by Universal and Illumination, added about 69 million dollars across more than 4,000 theaters in the United States and Canada, based on studio estimates reported on Sunday.
This latest weekend performance brings its total earnings in North America to around 308 million dollars. Globally, the movie has now reached approximately 629 million dollars.
Even though the film saw a drop of around 48 percent compared to its opening weekend, analysts say the decline is still within a normal range for a major blockbuster. It remains one of the stronger-performing releases of the year so far.
Industry analyst Paul Dergarabedian from Comscore commented on the movie’s performance. He said, “it’s a very respectable hold.” He also added, “For the film to already be over $300 million is just astonishing.” He pointed out that many tickets are likely sold at lower prices due to a large family audience, which makes the numbers even more notable.
The film is also helping support overall box office activity ahead of the summer season. With strong early results, it is already being seen as one of the standout hits of the year.
Other films continue to compete for box office attention. Project Hail Mary held strong in its fourth weekend, bringing in about 24.6 million dollars and pushing its worldwide total past 510 million dollars.

The Drama also remained in the top tier, earning 8.7 million dollars in its second weekend. Its global total now sits at around 65 million dollars.
Disney and Pixar’s Hoppers continued its steady run, adding 4.1 million dollars and reaching more than 354 million dollars worldwide.
A smaller but notable release was Exit 8, which performed well in limited theaters and earned strong audience ratings alongside its early box office results.
Looking ahead, analysts are now predicting that The Super Mario Galaxy Movie could finish its theatrical run between 1 billion and 1.5 billion dollars globally if its current pace continues. That would place it among the biggest films of 2026 and one of the most successful video game adaptations ever released.
This shows how powerful established franchises still are in cinemas today. Audiences keep showing up for familiar characters, especially in family-friendly films. If the momentum continues, this could easily become one of the top box office stories of the year. What do you think about its chances of reaching 1 billion dollars?
