Michelle Pfeiffer Reveals the One Star Who Made Her Cry: “I Just Cried”
Back in the 1990s, almost everyone knew who Michelle Pfeiffer was. She was one of the biggest stars in the world and people thought she was incredibly beautiful. She did a great job playing Catwoman in the 1992 movie Batman Returns where she ran around with a whip.
She also had other huge hits like Dangerous Minds and a movie with George Clooney called One Fine Day. Because she was such a big deal for so long, you might think she never gets nervous around other actors. But that is not true at all.
When she started working on the movie Murder on the Orient Express in 2017, she met the famous British actress Judi Dench. Even though Pfeiffer had been a star for decades, she completely lost her cool. She talked about this moment with Vanity Fair and admitted that she broke down as soon as she saw the acting legend.
Pfeiffer said, When I met her, I just cried…tears coming down my face. Wah! I was just completely starstruck and moved by meeting her. It just takes jumping into the deep end, but it’s hard to trust that in the beginning. And so I was at that stage, and I’m acting in front of Judi Dench, and I’m thinking, ‘OK, you cannot bomb in front of Judi Dench. This just can’t happen‘.
It makes sense why she was so worried. Judi Dench has been a top professional for more than sixty years. She has been nominated for eight Academy Awards and she won two of them. People think she is one of the best actors to ever live. Pfeiffer is a very successful actress too, with three Oscar nominations and eight Golden Globe nods, but she still felt like a fan in that moment.
The movie they were filming was a mystery Murder on the Orient Express directed by Kenneth Branagh. It had a very famous cast that included people like Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, and Olivia Colman.
Even though it had all those stars, the critics gave the film mixed reviews. Some people who write about movies thought it looked very pretty but felt a bit empty. They complained that the story felt too old-fashioned and that the movie did not add anything new to the famous book. Some critics even said the movie was a little boring because it focused too much on the visuals and not enough on the tension of the mystery.
Even though the reviews were not perfect, the movie was a massive hit with regular audiences. It only cost $55 million to make, but it earned $350 million at the box office. People clearly wanted to see all those famous actors working together, even if the critics were not entirely impressed by the final product.
