Mark Ruffalo Hints Spider-Man Could Face a Major MCU Villain in the Future
The next installment of the Spider-Man series is almost here. The movie is titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day and it will arrive in theaters on July 31. This film is the fourth solo outing for Tom Holland as the lead character. It follows the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, where the world forgot Peter Parker’s true identity.
In this new story, Peter is living a quiet and lonely life in New York City. He spends his time fighting street-level criminals while his body begins to change. His powers are evolving, and he can now produce organic spider webs from his wrists. To figure out what is happening to him, Peter goes to Empire State University. There, he finds Bruce Banner working as a professor. Mark Ruffalo returns as Banner to help Peter understand his mutating abilities.
The movie features several other familiar characters. Jon Bernthal returns as the Punisher. At first, he and Spider-Man do not get along, but they eventually form a bond similar to brothers. Peter will also face many enemies, including the Scorpion and a crime boss named Tombstone. Groups like the Hand and villains like Boomerang are also part of the story.
While Peter protects the city, his former friends are moving on with their lives. MJ and Ned are now students at MIT. MJ has a new boyfriend, which creates difficult emotions for Peter. Meanwhile, Ned has created a new app to track Spider-Man because he wants to thank the hero for his past help.
Mark Ruffalo recently made comments that have fans very excited about what comes next for the web-slinger. He suggested that Peter Parker will eventually face a threat from outer space. Ruffalo stated, “I promise you 1000% that he will be fighting an alien in the future…” Many people believe this is a hint that a fight with Venom is being planned.

The film was directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. Production took place in late 2025 at Pinewood Studios and locations across Scotland and England. This movie is a major part of Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
I think it is a smart move to bring Spider-Man back to his roots in New York. Seeing him deal with everyday crime and personal struggles makes the character feel more human. The addition of the Punisher should add a gritty feel to the movie that fans will enjoy. I am also curious to see how the new organic web powers change the way he fights.
What do you think about Peter Parker getting organic webs? Are you excited to see him team up with the Punisher? Share your thoughts in the comments!
