Erin Moriarty has spoken about a difficult period she went through while filming the last season of the Prime Video series The Boys. The actress, known for playing Starlight, said she was dealing with Graves’ disease at the time and it made both her work and daily life very hard.

The details come from an interview reported by The Hollywood Reporter dated April 23. Moriarty explained that the illness had a strong impact on her energy, focus, and emotional state while she was on set.

She described the filming process as extremely tough, saying she often struggled just to get through the workdays. At times, she felt distant from her character and said she was not as present in the role as she wanted to be. She admitted this was painful for her, especially because she cared deeply about the show and her character’s journey.

Graves’ disease is an autoimmune condition that affects the thyroid. It can cause symptoms like anxiety, fatigue, sleep issues, rapid heartbeat, and other physical problems. Moriarty shared that she had been feeling unwell for a while before getting diagnosed, and she initially thought it was stress.

She first revealed her diagnosis in 2025 through social media. In that post, she encouraged others to get medical checks if they notice changes in their health. She said that once she started treatment, she noticed improvement quickly and began feeling better over time.

During the filming of the final season, she said the condition made it difficult to perform at her usual level. She explained that there were stretches of episodes where she felt like she was not fully “there” mentally or physically, but she gradually regained her strength later in production.

Even though she received support from the cast and crew, Moriarty said the experience was still very overwhelming. She also spoke honestly about how serious autoimmune conditions can be and said many people may not fully understand their impact.

One of the most personal parts of her interview was her decision not to watch the final season of The Boys. She said she has always loved the show, but right now she needs to protect her mental health.

She put it simply in her own words: “it’s really important for me at this moment in time to put my psychological health above all other things”

Her choice highlights how the pressure of working through illness can continue even after filming ends. While she remains grateful for the experience and her colleagues, she is focusing on recovery and balance in her life now.
