A new image of Hal Jordan and John Stewart from HBO’s upcoming DC series “Lanterns” has been released, giving fans another early glimpse at the show ahead of its 2026 premiere.

“Lanterns” is a superhero series set in the new DC Universe. It is being developed for HBO by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King. The show is based on the DC Comics characters Hal Jordan and John Stewart, two members of the Green Lantern Corps.

The series is produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television, with Chris Mundy also acting as showrunner. It follows a long development path that started years ago under Greg Berlanti. The project was later rebuilt after James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios leadership in 2022.

According to production details shared by HBO and DC Studios, the series takes a different approach compared to typical superhero stories. It mixes crime investigation with science fiction. The main story focuses on Hal Jordan and John Stewart as they look into a murder case on Earth, which slowly leads them into a much larger and darker mystery.

Kyle Chandler plays Hal Jordan, a veteran Green Lantern who is close to retirement and takes on a mentoring role. Aaron Pierre plays John Stewart, a newer recruit who is being trained to take over Jordan’s place in the Corps. The cast also includes Kelly Macdonald as a small-town sheriff named Kerry and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, another Green Lantern known for his difficult personality.

Other characters in the series include figures connected to both Earth-based stories and the wider Green Lantern universe. Ulrich Thomsen plays Sinestro, a former member of the Corps with a complicated past linked to Hal Jordan. Several supporting roles expand the story beyond the main investigation.

Filming for “Lanterns” took place in Los Angeles from early to mid-2025. Multiple directors worked on the series across its eight episodes. The show is planned as part of the DCU’s first chapter, “Gods and Monsters.”

The series is set to premiere in August.

Based on the information shared by HBO and DC Studios, the new image highlights the partnership between Hal Jordan and John Stewart, which is expected to be at the center of the show’s story. Their dynamic as experienced and new Green Lanterns is a key focus of the series.

This series feels like a different direction for DC television. It is not just about superhero action but also a mystery-driven story, which could make it stand out if handled well. The pairing of Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre also brings strong acting talent to the lead roles. What do you think about this new take on Green Lantern? Share your thoughts in the comments.
