Robert Kirkman Ranks All ‘Invincible’ Seasons — His #1 Pick Isn’t What Fans Expected
Robert Kirkman has shared his personal ranking of all seasons of Invincible, and his choice for the top spot is not what many fans expected.
Speaking on the podcast The Escape Pod, Kirkman said his favorite season is the newest one. He placed season 4 at number one, followed by season 3, then season 1, and finally season 2 at the bottom. His ranking is based on his own experience working on the show and how closely he has been involved with each season.
He explained his thinking during the interview and said, “I would go 4, 3, 1, 2.” He also talked about why season 2 feels different compared to the others. “I will say that season 2 was a deliberately quiet season. We try to make sure that there’s not like a formula to the seasons. That’s why the finale of season 4 is quiet, whereas the finales to one and three were like these big, explosive things. And so I see, you know, season 2 seems to be a season that is not getting a lot of love.”
Kirkman also admitted that his top choice might be influenced by how recent it is. He said, “It’s the one I’m like the most entrenched in and well-versed in, and I’ve watched all the cuts most recently, and so I feel like it’s the strongest.”
His opinion is quite different from how viewers have rated the show. Audience scores show that season 1 is still the most popular, with very high ratings. Season 3 is also close behind, while season 2 sits in the middle. Season 4, despite being Kirkman’s favorite, has the lowest score among the four so far.
One reason for this gap could be a specific episode in season 4 that divided viewers. The episode, often called the “Hell episode,” did not land well with many fans and ended up with the lowest rating in the series on IMDb.
Even with mixed reactions, the show remains a major hit. All four seasons of Invincible are available to stream on Prime Video, and a fifth season has already been confirmed. It is expected to arrive in 2027.
It makes sense that Kirkman prefers the latest season since he is closest to it. Still, fan reactions matter too, and it is interesting to see such a clear difference between the creator and the audience. What do you think about his ranking? Do you agree that season 4 is the best, or do you prefer an earlier season? Share your thoughts in the comments.
