‘Lanterns’ Trailer Absence Explained as HBO Teaser Quietly Returns Online
The trailer for Lanterns is back online after suddenly disappearing earlier this week, and now the reason has been revealed.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the teaser was taken down because of an expired music license. The original version used licensed music that could no longer be used, so the video had to be removed until a new version was ready. The updated trailer has now been re-uploaded with different audio.
The short disappearance led to confusion among fans. Some people online thought it might be connected to recent discussions about the show or creative choices tied to the Green Lantern characters. However, that turned out to be incorrect.
The new version of the trailer also confirms that the show will premiere on August 16 on HBO Max. James Gunn, who is co-leading DC Studios, shared the news on social media. He wrote, “Beware my power, Green Lantern’s light. #Lanterns premieres August 16 on @hbomax.”
The series follows John Stewart, played by Aaron Pierre, who joins the Green Lantern Corps. He is paired with Hal Jordan, played by Kyle Chandler, a more experienced member of the group. Together, they look into a murder case in the United States that is expected to connect to bigger events in the DC universe.
Other cast members include Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, and Ulrich Thomsen. The show also features Nathan Fillion, who returns as Guy Gardner.
The project is led by showrunner Chris Mundy, with writing support from Damon Lindelof and Tom King.
The quick removal and return of the trailer show how common these licensing issues can be, especially when music rights are involved. Now that the teaser is back, fans can once again get a look at one of DC’s upcoming series.
This situation was simple but got bigger because of how fast fans react online. It shows how quickly people can assume bigger problems when the real reason is technical. What do you think about the trailer being taken down and brought back? Share your thoughts in the comments.
