This Is the Most Streamed Star Wars Show Among Gen Z in 2025

Every year, big franchises tend to see a spike in viewing when fans celebrate special dates or revisit older favorites.

These moments often bring renewed attention to films and series that have been around for decades, especially when they are available across both television and streaming platforms. Data from audience tracking companies also helps show just how much people continue to watch these long-running stories.

According to Nielsen, a major audience measurement company, the Star Wars universe continues to dominate viewing habits in the United States. In 2025 alone, viewers watched around 33 billion minutes of Star Wars content across both streaming and traditional television. This data was shared in connection with Star Wars Day celebrations, which take place every year on May 4.

A large portion of this viewing happens on Disney+, which has become the main streaming home for the franchise since Disney acquired the rights to Star Wars in 2012. The platform hosts the full range of films, animated series, and live-action shows connected to the universe.

The breakdown of viewing shows that the original films still hold a strong place in audience interest. Movies made up about 44.2 percent of total viewing time. Live-action series accounted for 38.9 percent, while animated content made up 16.8 percent. A small portion, around 0.2 percent, came from documentaries about the franchise.

Among individual titles, the original 1977 film Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope ranked as the most-watched overall. It was followed by Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, showing that both classic and newer entries continue to attract viewers.

In terms of television content, the live-action series Andor led the pack with 7.4 billion minutes viewed. The show saw a major boost during the release of its second season in 2025, which helped it remain on streaming charts for several weeks in a row. It was followed in popularity by Star Wars: Skeleton Crew and The Mandalorian.

Nielsen also tracked viewing specifically on Star Wars Day in 2025. On that single day, fans watched 637 million minutes of Star Wars content. Once again, “Andor” ranked as the most-watched title, followed by several of the franchise’s most iconic films, including “A New Hope,” “The Phantom Menace,” “The Empire Strikes Back,” and “Revenge of the Sith.”

Audience habits also differ by age group. According to the same Nielsen report, different generations tend to favor different parts of the franchise. For example, younger viewers in Gen Z are more drawn to animated series, especially Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which has remained popular long after its original release.

“The Clone Wars” was created by George Lucas and produced through Lucasfilm Animation. The series takes place between the prequel films and follows Jedi characters like Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi during the Clone Wars conflict. It originally ran on Cartoon Network before later seasons were released on streaming platforms.

Over time, the show expanded into a larger connected story universe, leading to spin-offs and related series. Its continued popularity, even years after its final season, reflects how strong animated storytelling remains within the franchise.

Nielsen’s data overall shows that interest in Star Wars is still very strong across all formats. Whether it is films, live-action shows, or animated series, audiences continue to return to the franchise in huge numbers, especially during cultural moments like Star Wars Day.
