Fans of the Star Wars universe have been closely watching the latest animated projects, especially those tied to iconic characters with long histories. One of the most talked-about recent entries is Maul – Shadow Lord, which has quickly built strong attention since its debut on Disney+. As the first season wraps up, talk has already shifted to what comes next for the series and how long viewers might need to wait for more.

According to The Direct, Sam Witwer, who voices Maul and also serves as a consulting producer on the series, recently shared a new update about the show’s future. While he did not reveal a specific date, he made it clear that fans should not expect a long gap between seasons.

“It’s not a situation where the audiences will have to wait too, too long,” Witwer said. He also noted that work on the second season has already been underway for some time, even before the first season fully finished its run. Disney+ officially renewed the series in April 2026, which confirmed that Maul’s story will continue.

Witwer also spoke about the strong reaction from viewers. He admitted that the level of excitement around the show was higher than he expected. “My prediction for Shadow Lord was, ‘Yeah, I think we have the goods,’” he said. “I did not necessarily see all of the passion and how hardcore everyone is locked into this show,” he added.

That reaction has created extra pressure for the creative team. Witwer explained that everyone involved feels responsible for pushing the story further and making sure the next season delivers something even stronger. He said the team is focused on exploring new ideas and expanding Maul’s journey in ways that still feel true to the character.

He also pointed to guidance from Lucasfilm leadership. Dave Filoni, who has played a major role in shaping modern Star Wars animation, has encouraged the team to aim even higher for the next chapter. Witwer described the series as part of a larger storytelling tradition, calling Star Wars a kind of “modern myth” that carries a lot of weight for both creators and fans.

While an exact release date has not been shared, past Star Wars animated series give some hints about timing. Shows like The Clone Wars and Rebels often followed yearly release patterns, while The Bad Batch sometimes had longer gaps between seasons. Based on that history, some expect Season 2 could arrive in late 2027, though nothing has been confirmed.

Maul – Shadow Lord takes place after The Clone Wars and focuses on Maul trying to rebuild his influence during the rise of the Galactic Empire. The series continues to explore his complex role as both a villain and a survivor shaped by constant conflict.

With Season 1 now complete and Season 2 already in development, attention is turning to how the story will grow next and what new challenges Maul will face as the saga continues.
