Michael Jackson’s Daughter, Paris, Reveals Why She’s Not in His ‘Michael’ Biopic
A major music biopic has just arrived in theaters, bringing renewed attention to one of the most famous artists in history. The film follows the life and career of Michael Jackson, from his early days in the Jackson 5 to his rise as a global superstar.
The movie, titled Michael, is directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by John Logan. It stars Jaafar Jackson, the singer’s nephew, in the lead role. Several members of the Jackson family are portrayed in the film, including performances by Colman Domingo and Nia Long. However, not everyone close to Michael Jackson is part of the project.
One person who chose not to be involved is his daughter, Paris Jackson. She has spoken openly about her decision on social media, making it clear that she had concerns about the film early on. According to E! News, she reviewed an early version of the script but was not happy with what she saw.
“I read one of the first drafts of the script and gave my notes about what was dishonest / didn’t sit right with me and when they didn’t address it I moved on with my life. Not my monkeys not my circus. God bless and god speed,” she wrote in an Instagram Story.
She later explained more about her concerns. “They’re gonna make whatever they’re gonna make. The big reason why I haven’t said anything up until this point is because I know a lot of you guys are gonna be happy with it,” she said, adding that the film “panders to a very specific section of my dad’s fandom that still lives in a fantasy.”
Paris also questioned how the story is presented. “The narrative is being controlled. There’s a lot of inaccuracy and there’s a lot of full-blown lies. At the end of the day, that doesn’t really fly with me. I don’t really like dishonesty.”
She addressed criticism directly as well. “That’s not my truth…I just prefer honesty over sales and monetary gain.”
While the film includes input from some family members, such as Prince Jackson who worked as an executive producer, Paris and her siblings are not part of the production. Her comments have added another layer to the discussion around the film, especially as audiences continue to react to its portrayal of Michael Jackson’s life.
