The Defenders Are Finally Getting the Reunion They Deserved, and ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 3 Set Photos Prove It
When Marvel and Netflix first launched their interconnected street-level superhero universe back in 2015, the promise of a proper team-up between Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist felt electric. That dream was realized in the 2017 crossover event ‘The Defenders’, but the series only lasted eight episodes before the Netflix era came to an abrupt end. Fans have spent years wondering whether these characters would ever share the screen again in a meaningful way.
‘Daredevil: Born Again’ season 2 arrived on Disney+ on March 24, 2026, earning an 88 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and drawing strong audience interest across its eight-episode weekly run. The season wasted no time in planting seeds for a much larger reunion, reintroducing Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones as a changed woman, now raising a daughter named Danielle while dealing with powers that have become unpredictable since giving birth.
The season built steadily toward the moment fans had been waiting for. In the closing moments of the season finale, Luke Cage returned, fully discharged from his mysterious government assignment and reunited with Jessica and their daughter in a genuinely touching scene.
Ritter later revealed to The Wrap that she personally called Colter to get him back on board, telling the outlet, “I’m very close friends with Mike in real life, and there’s such a difference between how we are when we’re on my back porch, versus how we are when we’re in character.”
Now the reunion is moving well beyond a brief finale cameo. In early April 2026, Mike Colter and Finn Jones were both spotted on the set of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ season 3 alongside Ritter, filming outside a Brooklyn courthouse. The behind-the-scenes footage shared by Ritter in a candid moment, filmed by Colter himself from his own account, giving fans an informal and genuinely warm glimpse at the real-life chemistry between the two.
Season 3 began principal photography in March 2026 and is expected to wrap by July, with a Disney+ premiere targeted for March 2027.
The set photos revealed that Colter is wearing the same brown suit his character had on at the end of ‘Luke Cage’ season two, suggesting the costume choice is a deliberate nod to continuity and where Luke’s arc left off. Showrunner Dario Scardapane has indicated that season 3 will move away from the Mayor Fisk political storyline and return to a more grounded, street-level approach.
This marks the first time all four original Defenders will appear together on screen since Netflix’s cancelled crossover series back in 2017, a reunion that fans had long been calling for. The combination of Ritter’s emotional season two arc, the finale’s promise of Luke Cage sticking around, and now Finn Jones joining the mix for season three suggests that ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is deliberately and methodically rebuilding everything Marvel’s street-level universe was supposed to be.
