‘General Hospital’ Star Steve Burton Slams Ex-Wife in Alleged Texts: “This Is Manipulation”
A new report has revealed alleged text messages connected to the ongoing custody dispute between Steve Burton and his ex-wife Sheree Burton, adding more public attention to the former couple’s legal battle.
According to messages published by TMZ, the dispute centers around custody arrangements involving their 11-year-old daughter, Brooklyn. The reported exchange allegedly took place earlier this year as the two discussed summer plans and where their daughter would spend her time.
In the alleged conversation, Burton reportedly pushed back against a California summer activity program, arguing that it interfered with scheduled family time. One of the reported messages included the actor accusing his ex-wife of “manipulation” while also claiming that agreements had already been signed regarding custody arrangements.
The reported texts suggest tensions over Burton’s move between California and Tennessee, which has reportedly become a major issue in the custody discussions. Burton allegedly argued that family time should come before extracurricular activities and claimed that the situation unfairly placed blame on him in front of their daughter.
Amador reportedly responded by defending her position and saying their daughter’s life and activities are based in California. According to the alleged messages, she told Burton that she did not believe their daughter should have to give up opportunities simply because he wanted her to spend more time in Tennessee. She also reportedly encouraged him to enjoy his time with their daughter instead of continuing the argument.
Another alleged message from Burton reportedly claimed that cooperation between them had been difficult for a long time and suggested that ongoing court involvement was proof of those issues.
The former couple split in 2022 after Burton publicly announced their separation. At the time, he stated on social media that Amador was expecting a child that was not his. Despite the highly public breakup, both previously said they planned to continue co-parenting their children together. Their divorce was finalized the following year.
Outside of the custody dispute, Burton recently made headlines after taking a short break from General Hospital following his recent marriage. The actor said he wanted to spend more time with family during the temporary leave.
Custody battles becoming public almost never helps anyone involved, especially children. These situations are already emotional behind closed doors, and once private messages start appearing online, things can quickly become even more complicated.
At the same time, fans naturally pay attention because Burton is a well-known television figure. Hopefully both sides can eventually work out an arrangement that focuses on what is best for their daughter instead of continuing the conflict publicly. What do you think about the situation? Should celebrity custody disputes stay private, or is public attention unavoidable once legal filings become part of the story? Share your thoughts in the comments.
