A new trailer has been released for Minions & Monsters, giving fans another look at the next big chapter in the long-running animated franchise.

The film is a new entry in the Despicable Me universe and continues the spin-off series focused on the Minions. It is directed by Pierre Coffin, who also co-wrote the project with Brian Lynch.

Produced by Illumination and released by Universal Pictures, the movie takes place long before the events of earlier Minions films. This time, the story moves back to the 1920s and follows the Minions as they try to create their own monster movie in Old Hollywood.

The voice cast includes Coffin returning as the Minions, along with a large ensemble featuring Allison Janney, Christoph Waltz, Jeff Bridges, Jesse Eisenberg, Zoey Deutch, Bobby Moynihan, Phil LaMarr, and Trey Parker.

In the story, the Minions search for real monsters to include in their film project, leading to a chaotic mix of comedy and classic Hollywood-style filmmaking.

The project was first revealed in 2024 following the release of Despicable Me 4. It brings back Coffin as director and Lynch as writer, with Chris Meledandri producing. The music is composed by John Powell, marking a shift for the franchise’s soundtrack direction.

The movie has also gone through a long marketing rollout, including a Super Bowl teaser and early preview footage shown at industry events.

Its release plan includes a festival premiere at Annecy before a theatrical debut in the United States on July 1, 2026. Streaming will follow later across multiple platforms under Universal’s distribution deal.

There was also an earlier setback during production when an audio recording from a test screening was leaked online, leading to early exposure of the film’s content.

With the new trailer now out, the studio is pushing full promotion ahead of its summer release, showing a mix of humor, chaos, and retro Hollywood style.

This film looks like another strong entry in the Minions series. The Old Hollywood setting is a fresh idea, and it could give the story a fun new direction. At the same time, it will be interesting to see if it can stand out after so many entries in the franchise. What do you think about the new trailer for Minions & Monsters?
