‘Criminal Minds: Evolution’ Season 19 Trailer Is Here, and the BAU’s Most Dangerous Game Is Just Getting Started
‘Criminal Minds: Evolution’ has spent the better part of two decades proving that the appetite for psychological crime drama is essentially bottomless. What began as a procedural on CBS in 2005 gradually transformed into one of television’s most beloved ensemble franchises, following the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit through hundreds of chilling cases. The show aired for 15 seasons on CBS before concluding in 2020, only to be revived under the ‘Evolution’ banner on Paramount+, where its serialized format has found a natural home and a loyal new audience.
Since its debut, the series has expanded from its procedural roots into more serialized storytelling, though fans of the original will still recognize the core DNA intact. The Paramount+ era of the show has built on that foundation season after season, leaning deeper into the mythology of its most compelling villain and keeping the BAU at the center of some genuinely unsettling narrative territory. With well over 350 episodes now available to stream, the franchise shows no sign of slowing down.
Now the wait for what comes next is almost over. Paramount+ has dropped the official trailer for ‘Criminal Minds: Evolution’ Season 19, with the series set to premiere on Thursday, May 28, launching with two episodes.
Per the official logline, Season 19 finds the elite profilers pushed to their limits as the BAU investigates a string of chilling new cases, while Elias Voit embarks on a path to atone for his past. His newfound infamy inadvertently awakens their most formidable nemesis yet, a killer known only as The Fan, who is described as precise, calculating, and relentlessly dangerous.
Showrunner Erica Messer has confirmed that Voit will appear in every episode of Season 19, so his complicated push-and-pull dynamic with the BAU remains very much at the heart of the season. Beyond the main cast, the new season arrives packed with a remarkable roster of guest stars.
Joining the show are Connor Storrie from ‘Heated Rivalry’, Clark Gregg of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ fame, Yvette Nicole Brown and Paget Brewster reuniting for the first time since their ‘Community’ days, and Jeri Ryan, known for her iconic run on ‘Star Trek: Voyager’.
The emotional weight of the season will not rest solely on the villain-of-the-week format. A.J. Cook told TV Insider that her character JJ’s grief will continue to unfold across the season, saying the show will touch on many of the grief phases and that it will not be resolved quickly or tidily, because that is simply not how grief works.
Meanwhile, showrunner Erica Messer has indicated that Season 19 will put the spotlight on Adam Rodriguez’s Alvez, previewing that there was not a dry eye in the room when the team screened the second episode.
Paramount+ also announced the renewal of ‘Criminal Minds: Evolution’ for a 20th season the same day it revealed the Season 19 premiere date, with that milestone installment slated for 2027. Season 19 will run for ten episodes, with new installments dropping weekly on Thursdays through the season finale on July 23. For a franchise this far into its run, the momentum feels genuinely remarkable.
