Jon Bernthal Teases ‘The Punisher: One Last Kill,’ Says Team Tried to Honor Comic Book Fans
Jon Bernthal says fans will see a different side of Frank Castle in The Punisher: One Last Kill.
Speaking in an interview ahead of the project’s release, Bernthal explained that the team wanted to stay true to the comics while also taking the character in a new direction. The actor returns as Frank Castle for his first solo Punisher story since Netflix ended The Punisher.
According to Bernthal, the story begins with Frank in a dark place emotionally and mentally.
“We really tried to honor the comic and the comic book fans,” he said.
Bernthal explained that the main goal was to show Frank struggling with revenge while trying to find a new purpose in life.
“The directive from day one was pretty simple: it was how do we get Frank from this place in his life where he is reeling and spiraling out of control, a man who is set on absolute vengeance, to a place where he can find some meaning, where he can find something new to fight for?” he said.
The actor added that the new project explores a more personal journey for the character instead of focusing only on violence and revenge.
“But he does find a bit of purpose, and I think that is an exciting new take on the character,” Bernthal said.
The Punisher: One Last Kill arrives on the platform on May 12 as Daredevil: Born Again comes to an end on Disney+. The story follows Frank Castle as he becomes caught in a war against a growing criminal empire while still dealing with his past and his obsession with revenge.
Bernthal is not only starring in the project but also serving as co-writer and executive producer.
