True crime content has carved out a permanent home on Netflix, and the streaming giant shows no sign of slowing down. From multi-part docuseries to one-episode deep dives, the platform has built an audience hungry for real-world cases told with cinematic craft, emotional weight, and unflinching honesty.

A spinoff of Netflix’s ‘Worst Roommate Ever’, ‘Worst Ex Ever’ first debuted in 2024 and explores the dark side of love, focusing on relationships that turned manipulative, controlling, and even deadly. Its return was one of the more anticipated true crime events of the spring.

Blumhouse Production and ITV America’s true-crime docuseries ‘Worst Ex Ever’ debuted its second season on Netflix with a new set of stories, featuring four new hour-long episodes. Told from the perspectives of the survivors, each episode features animated reenactments, body cam footage, police interviews, and an inside look at how love can be used to mask deceit, betrayal, and violence. Director Cynthia Childs is back for the second season, joined by executive producers Jason Blum, Gretchen Palek and Jordana Hochman, plus co-executive producer Natalee Watts.

The season’s opening episode is the one audiences are already talking about. Season 2 of ‘Worst Ex Ever’ begins with a feature-length episode about the man who would go on to be known as the “Deadpool Killer,” so nicknamed because his name is Wade Wilson, just like the Marvel character portrayed by Ryan Reynolds in several film adaptations. This season also features a miraculous break in a 2011 cold case, a kidnapping and hostage situation, and a reality star from ’90 Day Fiancé’.

Wade Wilson was found guilty of the October 2019 murders of 35-year-old Kristine Melton and 43-year-old Diane Ruiz. His deadly rampage began on October 7, 2019, when he went to a local bar at night with his girlfriend. He later went to Melton’s home, and in the early morning, strangled her in her bed, stole her car, and fled. Hours later, he encountered Ruiz after she asked him for directions, lured her into the vehicle, strangled her, and then ran her over.

Circuit Judge Nicholas Thompson stated at sentencing that “the evidence shows the murders were heinous, atrocious and cruel, and that the second murder was cold, calculated and premeditated.” The jury voted 9-3 and 10-2 for each of the victims, recommending Wilson receive the death penalty, with the same jury having convicted him on June 12 of the murders as well as additional charges related to the crimes. As of May 2026, he is incarcerated at the Union Correctional Institution in Raiford, Florida.

‘Worst Ex Ever’ returns for Season 2 featuring gripping testimonials, startling bodycam footage, and vivid animated reenactments that bring harrowing tales of betrayal, violence, and deceit to life, exposing some of the most monstrous relationships and exes you’ll ever encounter. The season highlights warning signs like isolation, control, hidden criminal records and sudden violence that can emerge in seemingly normal dating scenarios. For viewers who stuck with the first season, the format feels both familiar and freshly unsettling in equal measure.

The first season was gripping, well-paced, and serves as the ultimate cautionary tale for the modern era, a reminder that in a world of situationships, the worst-case scenario is much darker than a “read” receipt. Season 2 raises the stakes even further, leading with one of the most bizarre and disturbing cases in recent Florida crime history and refusing to let the viewer look away for long.
