Dua Lipa is reportedly suing Samsung for $15 million, according to Variety, which says it reviewed the court complaint filed on Friday in the Central District of California.

The lawsuit claims Samsung used Lipa’s image on its TV packaging without asking her and without paying her. It says the company started using her face on boxes for its televisions sometime last year. Once Lipa found out, she asked Samsung to stop using the image. The complaint says the company did not agree and was “dismissive and callous” in response.

In the legal filing, her side argues that her image was used in a way that made it look like she was promoting the product, even though she never agreed to any endorsement. It also says Samsung made money off that impression.

The complaint states, “Ms. Lipa’s face was prominently used for a mass marketing campaign for a consumer product without her knowledge, without consideration, and as to which she had no say, control, or input whatsoever. Ms. Lipa did not allow and would not have allowed this use.

It also says Lipa owns the copyright to the photo used, which was reportedly taken backstage at the Austin City Limits Festival in 2024.

The filing even points to social media reactions on X, to show how people reacted to the image. Some users said they felt influenced to buy the TVs because they thought she was connected to the product. One post quoted in the complaint said, “I wasn’t even planning on buying a tv but I saw the box so I decided to get it.” Another said, “I’d get that TV just because Dua Lipa is on it. That’s how obsessed I am. That’s how much I love her.”

The lawsuit says Lipa carefully controls her brand and is selective about endorsements, and that this use of her image goes against that.

The case includes claims under copyright law, California’s right of publicity rules, the federal Lanham Act, and trademark law. Samsung has not publicly responded to the lawsuit yet.
