‘Euphoria’ Scene Leaves Fans Terrified — Compared to a Stephen King Horror Moment

The latest episode of Euphoria delivered one of its most intense and unsettling cliffhangers yet in season 3, episode 5. The episode focuses heavily on Rue, played by Zendaya, as her situation reaches a dangerous breaking point.

This season of Euphoria picks up after a five-year time jump. The characters are now out of high school and struggling to deal with adult life, responsibility, and consequences from their past choices. Rue’s storyline in particular has become darker as she tries to survive a world filled with debt, danger, and illegal activity.

In the episode, Rue’s problems escalate after she is forced into increasingly risky situations. She is shown smuggling drugs using her own body and getting involved in managing illegal operations in order to repay dangerous people she owes money to. The pressure builds throughout the episode until it reaches a shocking final sequence.

The ending scene shows Rue being taken to a remote location and buried in sand up to her neck. Only her head is left above ground. The episode cuts to black just as one of her captors prepares to attack her with a polo mallet, leaving her fate unknown. The moment ends the episode on a strong cliffhanger that immediately sparked reactions online.

Fans quickly pointed out that the scene feels similar to a well-known horror story from author Stephen King. The comparison is mainly linked to the story Something to Tide You Over, which appears in the horror anthology film Creepshow. That story also features a character being buried up to their neck in sand as part of a revenge plot, creating a similar feeling of helplessness and tension.

In that Stephen King story, the situation becomes even more extreme when rising tides and psychological torture are used as part of the punishment. Viewers noticed the resemblance in tone and setup, even though the two stories play out differently.

Despite the intense ending, the official preview for the next episode does not reveal what happens to Rue. Instead, it shifts focus to other characters, including Cassie, played by Sydney Sweeney, whose storyline continues to develop in a different direction.

With several episodes still left in the season, viewers are now left waiting to see how Rue’s situation will be resolved and whether she survives the cliffhanger that has become one of the most talked-about moments of the season so far.
