‘The Boys’ Star Opens Up About That Tragic Death and Why He Still Can’t Watch the Final Episode
Episode 7 of “The Boys” Season 5 delivered another major death as Frenchie’s story came to an emotional end. The episode is now streaming on Prime Video.
During the episode, Frenchie, played by Tomer Capone, tries to stop Homelander from reaching Kimiko and the rest of the team. Even after using radiation in an attempt to weaken the powerful supe, Frenchie is unable to defeat him. Before dying from his injuries, he shares one final kiss with Kimiko, played by Karen Fukuhara.
Speaking to Variety after the episode aired, Capone admitted he still has not watched the episode because the role means too much to him.
“It’s too close, man. I’m too attached,” he said. “It’s the longest character I’ve ever had in my career.”
The actor explained that finishing Frenchie’s story has been emotional for him because he spent five seasons playing the character. He also said it still does not fully feel real that the series is ending.
“I don’t think I got it wrapped around my head that this is the last season, and it’s done,” Capone shared.
According to Capone, he learned about Frenchie’s death during an early conversation with series creator Eric Kripke before filming the season. The actor already knew how the character’s story ended in the original comic books, so he quickly understood where the discussion was heading.

“Kripke says, ‘I can’t keep it anymore. I have to tell you something. It’s happening,’” Capone recalled. “He didn’t need to say anything further.”
Even though the death scene itself was dark and emotional, Capone said the atmosphere behind the scenes was surprisingly light. He revealed that he and Antony Starr would dance and sing between takes while filming the confrontation between Frenchie and Homelander.
“We were dancing between takes,” Capone said. “Listen, the scene is dark. We had to keep it light.”
He added that Starr sang Frank Sinatra songs while Capone introduced him to French music during filming breaks.
One of the most emotional moments in the episode comes when Frenchie tells Kimiko, “You saved me.” Capone said the line reflects the core relationship between the two characters and the idea that love and connection can help people heal from their past.
“The whole arc of Frenchie and Kimiko is finding that one individual that can redeem you, save you and take you in without judgment,” he explained. “It’s just pure love.”
The episode also pushes the story of Homelander further than ever before, showing him taking complete control as chaos spreads across the country. But for many fans, Frenchie’s final goodbye may end up being the moment that hits the hardest this season.
