‘Hacks’ Star Hannah Einbinder Hints at What’s Coming in the Finale
Hannah Einbinder is already preparing fans for an emotional ending to Hacks as the award-winning comedy heads toward its final episodes.
During a conversation at the Kering Women in Motion Talks at Cannes, the actress reflected on wrapping up her time playing Ava Daniels in the HBO series. According to Variety, Einbinder admitted that saying goodbye to the character has been difficult for her emotionally.
When she was asked to describe the Hacks finale in one word, Einbinder answered simply: “Pain.”
She also revealed that she has been struggling to let go of Ava after spending years with the character. “I’ve been wearing all of her clothes like a deceased relative,” she said while talking about the emotional process of finishing the show. “I love her.”
The final season of Hacks is currently airing and marks the end of the relationship between Ava and Deborah Vance, played by Jean Smart. Over the course of the series, the two characters went from constantly clashing to forming one of television’s most complicated and emotional partnerships.
Einbinder also spoke about working alongside Jean Smart throughout the series and how meaningful the experience has been for her career. Their chemistry became one of the biggest reasons the HBO comedy connected so strongly with audiences and critics.

Outside of Hacks, Einbinder was at Cannes promoting her new film Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, directed by Jane Schoenbrun. During the event, she discussed the movie’s themes of identity, sexuality, and discomfort, while also speaking openly about political issues and Hollywood activism.
Still, it was her comments about Hacks that caught fans’ attention the most, especially her warning that the finale may not be easy emotionally. With only a few episodes left, viewers are now expecting a heavy and possibly heartbreaking ending for Ava and Deborah’s story.
