Eric Kripke Shares Heartbreaking Update on Gen V Characters in ‘The Boys’ Series Finale After Show’s Cancellation
Eric Kripke has shared new comments about the end of The Boys and how it connects to the story of Gen V. In the interview, Kripke spoke about the cancellation of Gen V and how it affects the overall storyline. He made it clear that he was not involved in the decision to cancel the spin-off and said he tried to stop it from happening.
He said: “I’m bummed about it. I’m not the one who cancelled the show, I fought really hard to stop it from being cancelled.” Kripke also explained that the characters from Gen V were always meant to continue their story beyond the main series. He said the ending of The Boys does not fully close their arc.
He explained: “I’m hopeful that’s not the last time you see them, because we don’t end their storyline in ‘The Boys.’ Like, that’s all done, and they head off to have more adventures. Those characters still have things to work on, and that was very intentional. We still want the opportunity to be able to do that.”
He added that there is still more story planned for them, even if it may not happen immediately. According to Kripke, the team behind the show still wants to explore those characters again in the future.
He said: “There’s more story that we want to tell. Sometimes these things just don’t go your way, but all the other producers and I really fought hard to try to keep it going. Alas, you know, it didn’t work out, but one of the advantages of having a world like this is that we will be able to find opportunities to continue their story. Some of the ‘Gen V’ gang show up for the last couple of episodes of ‘The Boys,’ with further stories on the horizon. We’re starting to kick around ideas and see how can we bring back those characters.”

The report also notes that characters from Gen V were expected to play a bigger role in the final stretch of The Boys. Marie Moreau, played by Jaz Sinclair, was especially seen by fans as a key figure because of her powerful abilities and growing importance in the story.
Kripke also previously addressed why Marie does not directly face Homelander. In earlier comments shared through interviews, he explained that she is still learning how to control her powers and is not ready for a fight of that scale.
He said: “She has all of this power, and everyone online is like, ‘Well, why doesn’t she just go take on Homelander?’ I’m like, ‘She’s a 19-year-old kid! She has no idea how to wield any of it in any sort of responsible, controlled way.’ Were there to be another season of ‘Gen V,’ that would be her training-with-Yoda season, where she really learns how to take the next step.”
He also added: “The fact that she’s super powerful, which she is, does not mean she’s automatically ready for every single conflict, much less one as big as Homelander. It could be quite dangerous and destructive, and it could lead to a lot of collateral damage and casualties if she can’t control it, so she still has a long road to go. That’s what we tried to plant there.”
The cancellation of Gen V has left fans questioning how much closure they will actually get in The Boys series finale. Kripke’s comments suggest that not every storyline will be fully wrapped up on screen.
For now, The Boys is moving toward its final episodes, while the future of Gen V characters remains uncertain, even though Kripke has expressed hope that their stories will continue in some form later on.
