David Tennant is once again getting a lot of attention on streaming platforms thanks to his new series Rivals. The second season has only just started releasing episodes, but it is already pulling strong viewing numbers around the world.

According to streaming data reported by FlixPatrol, and platform charts from Hulu and Disney+, the show quickly climbed into the top rankings after the release of its first three episodes. In the United States, it reached seventh place on Hulu, sitting near other popular titles like The Testaments and Perfect Crown. On a global level, it also reached seventh place on Disney+, showing strong international interest.

The series is performing especially well in several countries. It has reached number one in places like the United Kingdom and Ireland, and it is also in the top ten in countries such as Australia, Belgium, Canada, Germany, and Spain. In Croatia, it has even climbed to third place among the most-watched series.

The story of Rivals is based on the books by Jilly Cooper. It focuses on a power struggle between Tony Baddingham, played by David Tennant, and Rupert Campbell-Black, played by Alex Hassell. Their rivalry grows stronger as new characters enter the story, including journalists and media figures who add more tension and conflict.

The second season continues right after the events of the first, where Tony is still focused on revenge after a major battle over a television franchise. The show also brings back several key characters while introducing new ones, expanding the drama even further.

The first season of Rivals was already a major success when it premiered in 2024. It ranked high on streaming charts, received strong reviews, and even won an international Emmy for best drama series. David Tennant also received a BAFTA nomination for his role.

Because of that success, Disney ordered a longer second season with 12 episodes. The season is being released in two parts, with the first six episodes airing between mid-May and early June, and the remaining episodes scheduled for release later.

Critics have also responded positively to the new season so far. Early reviews on Rotten Tomatoes show very high approval, with both critics and audiences giving strong scores. Many reviewers say the new episodes feel more intense and give more depth to the characters, especially Tony and Rupert.

Overall, the combination of strong reviews and rising global streaming numbers shows that Rivals is continuing its success, and David Tennant’s role remains one of the main reasons for its popularity.
