What Went Wrong With ‘Snow’? Kit Harington Breaks Silence on the “Shelved” ‘Game of Thrones’ Spin-Off
Kit Harington has shared a new update about the planned Game of Thrones spin-off centered on Jon Snow. He spoke about it during an appearance at Motor City Comic Con, where he explained that the project is currently on hold.
He confirmed that the team tried to develop the idea but eventually could not find a story that worked. He said, “It’s open knowledge that we tried to make a Jon Snow show for a little while, and just couldn’t.”
Harington explained that his main concern was making sure the character was treated properly. He felt that Jon Snow’s story in Game of Thrones already ended in a meaningful way, and returning to it would need a strong reason.
He said, “My main thing is not wanting to go there and sort of do an injustice by the character. As I’ve just said, I think he ended well. I think that he went where he was meant to.”
He also spoke about why the idea was interesting in the first place. According to him, Jon Snow was always part of a large ensemble in the original series, and a spin-off would have allowed a deeper focus on just one character.
He said, “I did feel there was something left to say, and I did think the idea of exploring something kind of entirely around him, or a lot around him would be interesting.”
Harington added that this was what made him initially excited about the project. However, he confirmed that they were unable to develop a version of the story that felt right.
He said, “We couldn’t find the right thing, and so we put it down for the moment.”
The update comes after years of mixed reports about the spin-off. The idea was first revealed in 2022, and it was widely believed to be in early development. Later updates suggested it could still return, but Harington’s latest comments show that it is currently not moving forward.
The report is based on Harington’s appearance at Motor City Comic Con and additional coverage from entertainment news outlets following his interview.
Even though the Jon Snow project is on hold, the wider world of Game of Thrones is still expanding. Other spin-offs and prequel series are continuing at HBO, keeping interest in the franchise alive even without the Jon Snow story moving ahead for now.
