Hulu has officially renewed The Testaments for a second season while the first season is still airing and gaining strong viewership numbers. The news comes as the The Handmaid’s Tale spin-off continues its debut run and builds steady audience growth across Hulu and Disney+.

The Testaments stars Chase Infiniti, Lucy Halliday, and Ann Dowd, and is created by Bruce Miller, who also developed The Handmaid’s Tale. The series is produced by MGM Television and 20th Television. The renewal was announced after the show reached its eighth episode out of a planned ten-episode first season.

According to streaming figures shared by the company, the series has already crossed 45 million hours streamed globally. The show also saw clear growth week over week. The fourth episode recorded a 20 percent increase in viewership compared to the premiere after its first day online. Later, episode eight saw an even stronger jump, with its first-day views rising 76 percent compared to the premiere episode.

The series first launched on April 8 with a three-episode release. Since then, new episodes have continued to drive higher engagement, especially as word of mouth builds around the story and characters. Episode nine is scheduled for release on May 20, while the season finale will arrive on May 27.

Set in the same world as The Handmaid’s Tale, The Testaments takes place in Gilead and follows a younger generation growing up inside its strict system. The story centers on Agnes, played by Chase Infiniti, and Daisy, played by Lucy Halliday. Their lives become closely connected as they both navigate the control and expectations of Gilead’s society.

Ann Dowd returns as Aunt Lydia, a key figure in the series who oversees the training of young girls in a strict educational system designed to shape their future roles. The show explores how Agnes and Daisy form a bond that slowly challenges the world they are being raised in.

Creator Bruce Miller developed the series based on Margaret Atwood’s novel The Testaments, which continues the story set in the world of The Handmaid’s Tale. Miller also serves as showrunner and executive producer, along with a large team of producers across MGM Television and 20th Television.

The series also includes a supporting cast featuring Mabel Li, Amy Seimetz, Brad Alexander, Rowan Blanchard, Mattea Conforti, Zarrin Darnell-Martin, Eva Foote, Isolde Ardies, Shechinah Mpumlwana, Birva Pandya, and Kira Guloien. Elisabeth Moss also appears in a guest role, returning to her character June Osborne from The Handmaid’s Tale.

While the first season is still unfolding, Hulu’s early renewal shows confidence in the series’ performance. With strong streaming numbers and rising viewership from episode to episode, The Testaments is already set to continue its story beyond its debut season.

The show remains one of Hulu’s major drama releases of the year, and its growth suggests the audience for the Handmaid’s Tale universe is still expanding.
