Zach Cregger’s ‘Resident Evil’ Teaser Arrives, Giving Fans a Dark New Preview
A new teaser for Resident Evil, directed by Zach Cregger, has officially arrived, giving fans their first fresh look at the upcoming reboot of the iconic horror franchise.
The film is based on Capcom’s long-running video game series and is the second reboot of the Resident Evil movie franchise. According to production details reported by various outlets, the story is set during the events of Resident Evil 2 (1998), taking place in the middle of the Raccoon City outbreak.
The film follows Bryan, a medical courier played by Austin Abrams, who gets caught in the chaos while trying to complete a delivery. As the city collapses around him, he is forced to survive against infected creatures and growing horror.
The teaser continues to build interest around the grounded and survival-focused tone that director Zach Cregger has described in earlier interviews. Cregger also co-wrote the screenplay with Shay Hatten and has said the film will feel like a “love letter” to the games rather than a direct retelling of existing movie storylines.
Alongside Austin Abrams, the cast includes Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Paul Walter Hauser, who play Umbrella Corporation scientists, as well as Johnno Wilson as an Umbrella enforcer. The story keeps its focus on a new character perspective rather than following familiar video game heroes, something Cregger confirmed in earlier production notes.
According to Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions, which are behind the film, the reboot is designed to stay closer to the original game timeline and atmosphere. Cregger has also stated that the movie will not directly retell characters like Leon Kennedy, since their stories already exist in the games.
The new teaser arrives as post-production continues ahead of the film’s scheduled release on September 18. Filming took place in Prague starting in late 2025, with cinematography by Dariusz Wolski.
With this latest teaser now released, Resident Evil is once again stepping into the spotlight, aiming to reset the franchise with a darker and more survival-driven approach that fans of the games will immediately recognize.
