HBO has released a new trailer teasing its upcoming 2026 slate, giving viewers a first look at some of the biggest shows and returning series set to arrive next year. The short preview highlights a mix of new projects and familiar franchises, building early excitement for what looks like a packed release schedule.

The trailer was shared as part of HBO’s broader 2026 promotional rollout and includes brief footage from several high-profile titles. Even though the clips are short, they give fans a glimpse of the tone, cast, and scale of the upcoming lineup, hinting at a busy year ahead for the network.

1. Lanterns (August 16)

Lanterns is an upcoming HBO superhero series based on DC Comics characters Hal Jordan and John Stewart. The show follows veteran Green Lantern Hal Jordan and new recruit John Stewart as they investigate a murder on Earth that leads into a larger mystery.

It is created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King and is part of DC Studios’ new DCU “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.”

The series stars Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, alongside Kelly Macdonald and Nathan Fillion. It is described as a grounded, detective-style story inspired by shows like True Detective and Slow Horses. Lanterns is set to premiere on August 16, and will run for eight episodes on HBO.

2. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (December 25)

The upcoming Harry Potter series is a new HBO adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s books, planned as a long-running, faithful retelling of the original story. It stars Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, alongside Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, with a large supporting cast including John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, Paapa Essiedu, and Nick Frost.

The first season adapts Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and follows Harry as he begins his life at Hogwarts, where he forms close friendships and discovers the growing threat of Voldemort. The show is being developed by Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod, with production designed to span multiple seasons covering each book. It is set to premiere on December 25, on HBO and HBO Max.

3. House of the Dragon (June 21)

The third season of House of the Dragon is set to premiere on HBO on June 21, and will consist of eight episodes. It continues adapting George R. R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, exploring events from the Targaryen civil war.

The season was ordered in June 2024, just before season 2 premiered, with Ryan Condal serving as the sole showrunner. Filming took place from March to October 2025, and a fourth season has already been confirmed.

4. Stuart Fails to Save The Universe (July 23)

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is an upcoming science fiction comedy and the fourth series in The Big Bang Theory franchise. It follows Stuart Bloom, played by Kevin Sussman, along with alternate versions of familiar characters from a different reality, including Barry Kripke. The series also stars Brian Posehn, Lauren Lapkus, and John Ross Bowie, with additional recurring cast members from the original show’s universe.

Created by Chuck Lorre, Zak Penn, and Bill Prady, the show expands the Big Bang Theory world into a multiverse-style story. It is set to premiere on HBO Max on July 23.
