Alfred Molina has opened up about his future in the Marvel universe and his iconic role as Doctor Octopus. In a recent conversation while promoting his Netflix series “The Boroughs,” the actor spoke about his past in the Spider-Man films and whether he could return again in the MCU.

Molina first played Otto Octavius, also known as Doc Ock, in Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man 2” back in 2004. Years later, he returned to the role in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (2021), where multiple versions of Spider-Man villains from different universes appeared together.

When asked about the possibility of playing Doc Ock again in future Spider-Man projects, Molina did not close the door at all. He made it clear that he still enjoys the character and would be open to coming back if the opportunity ever came.

He said, “Who knows? If they came knocking on my door and said we’d love you to do it again, I would do it again, no doubt. I doubt if it’ll happen, though.”

Even though he sounded realistic about the chances, his answer still shows strong interest in returning if Marvel and Sony ever decide to bring Doctor Octopus back into the story again.

Molina also reflected on how surprising his return in “No Way Home” was, especially after so many years away from the role. He explained that when he first filmed Doc Ock’s sacrifice in “Spider-Man 2,” he thought his journey with the character had fully ended. At the time, he believed the story was complete and that Otto’s death closed the door.

But as he explained, Marvel’s approach to storytelling is never simple. He recalled being told early on that characters do not always stay gone for good in this universe, which eventually turned out to be true when he was brought back almost two decades later.

His return in “No Way Home” used modern visual effects to de-age him and recreate the classic look of Doc Ock. Molina said he was surprised by how much technology could change his appearance, but he still enjoyed stepping back into the role for fans who grew up with the original films.

While promoting “The Boroughs,” Molina also joked about how his career keeps him busy across very different roles, from live-action drama to voice acting. Still, his connection to Doc Ock remains one of his most recognized performances.

Even though he is not expecting a call anytime soon, Molina’s comments make it clear that he has no personal hesitation about returning. If Marvel decides to revisit Doctor Octopus again in future Spider-Man stories, the door is still open from his side.

For now, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” the next MCU Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland, is moving forward without any confirmed appearance from Molina’s version of the character. But fans continue to speculate about whether classic villains like Doc Ock could return again in some form.

And based on Molina’s own words, if that moment comes, he would be ready to step back into the role without hesitation.
