‘Backrooms’-Inspired Teaser for ‘Scary Movie 6’ Shocks Theaters With Creepy New Promo Reveal

A new teaser for Scary Movie 6 is now playing in theaters, and it is directly inspired by the viral horror concept known as “The Backrooms.” The short promo leans into the unsettling idea of endless empty spaces, but quickly breaks that tension with the franchise’s usual style of crude comedy and absurd dialogue.

In the teaser, the tone shifts between horror and humor almost instantly. Scary Movie 6 is directed by Michael Tiddes and written by a team that includes Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Craig Wayans, and Rick Alvarez. The film marks a major return for the Wayans family to the franchise after many years away. Their return has been described as a shift back toward the style of humor that defined the earlier entries in the series.

The film is also bringing back a mix of original cast members. Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans return in leading roles, alongside Anna Faris and Regina Hall. Other returning actors include Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, Dave Sheridan, Lochlyn Munro, Jon Abrahams, and Anthony Anderson. These returning characters connect the new film back to the original storyline and long-running parody universe.

The plot centers on a group of friends who reunite after a masked killer from their past returns. The story mirrors classic slasher setups but exaggerates them for comedic effect, which has always been the core formula of the Scary Movie franchise.

The franchise itself has a long history. It began in 2000 with the original Scary Movie and quickly became a major parody series in Hollywood.
