Chris Hemsworth & Taron Egerton Tease Explosive Crime Thriller ‘Kockroach’ in First-Look Images
Chris Hemsworth and Taron Egerton have been spotted in the first look images from the upcoming crime thriller Kockroach, which has now finished filming in Australia. The photos were released as part of an official reveal, giving fans an early glimpse at the film’s dark and unusual world.
According to production details shared alongside the images, Kockroach is set in New York and follows a mysterious stranger who enters the city’s criminal underworld. Over time, he rises through the ranks and reshapes himself into a powerful crime boss in a world where control and fear decide everything.
The film is based on the novel by William Lashner, which reimagines Franz Kafka’s famous story Metamorphosis. In this version, the idea is twisted into a crime setting, where transformation plays a key role in the story. The movie also adds a supernatural edge, mixing crime drama with body horror elements.
Early descriptions suggest that Hemsworth’s character goes through a strange and violent transformation, starting from something insect-like and evolving into a feared gangster figure. The film is expected to lean into both the shocking and surreal sides of that journey.
Directed by Matt Ross, the film uses a screenplay by Jonathan Ames, known for You Were Never Really Here, with revisions also handled by Ross. The project brings together a strong cast beyond its two leads, including Rachel Sennott, Zazie Beetz, Alec Baldwin, and Brian Geraghty.
The movie is produced by Andrew Lazar, known for American Sniper, and Christina Weiss Lurie, who worked on Persuasion. International rights are being handled by Black Bear, while CAA Media Finance and Range Select are co-representing domestic distribution.
Chris Hemsworth also shared his own reaction to the shoot on social media. He posted images from production and spoke about his experience working on the film.
He said, “possibly the most fun I’ve had on a set” and described the script as “one hell of a wild script.”
The story itself mixes crime power struggles with a surreal transformation arc, turning a simple rise-to-power narrative into something much stranger and more unsettling. The idea of a man evolving from vulnerability into dominance sits at the center of the film’s tone.
With filming now complete in Australia, Kockroach moves into post-production. The first look images suggest a gritty, stylized world where ambition, identity, and transformation collide in unexpected ways.
