Alamo from ‘Euphoria’ Reveals What Really Happened With Maddy in the Jacuzzi
Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje has finally spoken about one of the most talked-about moments in Euphoria Season 3, the scene involving his character Alamo and Maddy, played by Alexa Demie. The actor addressed the controversy and confusion around what actually happened between the two characters during their jacuzzi encounter.
Speaking in an interview with Us Weekly at the MPTF NextGen Summer Party, Akinnuoye-Agbaje explained that the scene was designed to feel layered and tense from the beginning. He said the interaction was carefully planned out with Euphoria creator Sam Levinson, and that Alamo’s actions were intentional rather than spontaneous.
He described how the character set everything up in advance. He said, “It was an interesting scene because it’s so layered. It’s very loaded.” He added that Alamo had control over the situation from the start, including the environment, the mood, and how the moment unfolded.
Akinnuoye-Agbaje explained further that Alamo had planned the entire setup in advance. He said, “From the bathing suit to the music to the champagne, he knew exactly what he was going to do.” According to him, the scene was meant to show manipulation and control rather than a simple romantic or playful moment.
One of the biggest questions from viewers was whether Alamo and Maddy actually had sex during the scene. The show never clearly showed what happened, which led to speculation online after the episode aired. Akinnuoye-Agbaje addressed this directly while still leaving some interpretation open.
He said, “To answer your question, did he sleep with her? Well, he was not there to play with her toes. For what she’s asking him to do — take out a life and give a million dollars — yeah, he most definitely did what he needed to do with that beautiful lady.”
The confusion began earlier in the season when Alamo and Maddy shared a hot tub scene. In that moment, Alamo tells Maddy to change into a swimsuit and join him, and the conversation shifts toward a deal involving a large sum of money to help Nate, played by Jacob Elordi. The scene ends before anything explicit is shown.

Later in the season finale, the two characters meet again at Alamo’s strip club. The interaction becomes more personal, with Alamo suggesting a future together and making physical advances toward Maddy. That scene also cuts away before fully showing what happens, adding to the uncertainty.
Akinnuoye-Agbaje said the character’s actions were always meant to reflect power and manipulation rather than romance. He also responded to fan reactions, saying he understands the strong response but does not get involved in how viewers interpret the story.
He said, “Look, it’s a voracious fan base. It’s really their show. It preceded me. I’ve done my part. Whatever they say and do is their part, so that’s where I leave it.”
The actor also reflected on the future of Euphoria, suggesting that even if the main story ends, there are still many characters and storylines that could be explored. He pointed out that the world of the show is large and could continue through different perspectives if the creators ever chose to return to it.
For now, Euphoria continues to stream on HBO Max, with Season 3 still generating discussion among fans about its most controversial and unclear moments.
