Cynthia Erivo has opened up about her dream role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, revealing that she has long wanted to play Storm from the X-Men.

Speaking in a recent interview with Variety Spotlight, Erivo said the idea has been with her since childhood. She explained that while she is focused on current and upcoming projects, the chance to step into a superhero role like Storm still feels personal and meaningful to her.

“It would take a lot to get me back to do it. It has to make sense,” Erivo said when discussing the possibility of returning for another Wicked film. She also made it clear that, as of now, there has been no serious conversation about future installments.

During the same discussion, Erivo spoke about the kinds of roles she still hopes to explore in her career. Among them is a desire to work with filmmaker Guillermo del Toro on a creature or monster role. But the biggest surprise came when she mentioned Marvel directly.

“Storm from the X-Men, which I call a childhood fantasy of mine,” she said, revealing how long she has admired the character and the idea of bringing her to life on screen.

MCU’s ‘X-Men’ Director Finally Breaks Silence on Casting Rumors

The X-Men franchise is currently being developed for a new reboot at Marvel Studios. However, it is still early in the process. According to director Jake Schreier, who is attached to the project, development is ongoing and the final direction of the film is still being shaped.

In a recent interview with Collider, Schreier addressed online casting rumors surrounding the project. He explained that much of what circulates online is not coming from the production itself.

“We’re talking about things, we’re thinking about things. I can tell you most of the stuff that gets posted online, I don’t know where it comes from, because it doesn’t come from our room, and it isn’t what we’re discussing. But there is a process,” Schreier said.

Over the past months, several actors have been linked by fans and online reports to potential roles in the reboot, including names like Hunter Schafer as Mystique, Odessa A’Zion as Rogue, and Peter Claffey as Beast. However, none of these casting choices have been confirmed by Marvel Studios.

Schreier also noted that the screenplay is still being developed and revised. Writers Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo are currently working on the script, which means casting decisions are not expected to be finalized anytime soon.

As he explained, the creative team is still in the early stages of shaping the film’s tone and story. Because of that, it remains unclear when official announcements about the cast will be made or what direction the X-Men reboot will ultimately take.

For now, Erivo’s comments have simply added more excitement around the project, especially among fans who have long imagined her taking on the role of Storm in a future Marvel film.
