Anne Hathaway is responding directly to online chatter about her appearance, after rumors spread suggesting she may have had a facelift. The actress addressed the speculation in an interview with Elle, as reported by the magazine, and explained why she felt it was necessary to speak up despite usually staying away from public commentary about her personal life.

Hathaway said she normally avoids engaging with rumors, but the volume of recent speculation made it harder to ignore. She explained, “We’re at a time when people feel very confident in assuming what they think is fact, and sometimes what they think is accurate and sometimes it’s not.” The comments came after fans began discussing her red carpet look and questioning whether she had undergone cosmetic procedures.

The conversation grew online after Hathaway appeared at a recent high-profile event where some viewers believed her face looked noticeably different. Social media users began speculating about possible surgery, which led to even more discussion when she posted a hairstyling video showing how a braided hairstyle created a lifted effect.

She said, “Also, by the way, these are huge medical decisions that people are presuming. I wanted to show that like, no, I didn’t make a huge medical decision. It’s just two braids.”

Despite shutting down the facelift rumors, Hathaway also made it clear that she is not against cosmetic procedures in general. She acknowledged that she may choose to have work done in the future, saying, “By the way, the other thing about all this is, I might still get a facelift someday.”
