Release Date Locked: First Look at ‘Slow Horses’ Season 6 With Returning Cast
Apple TV has shared the first look at season six of Slow Horses, giving fans a new glimpse of Gary Oldman back as the sharp-tongued Jackson Lamb. The images also confirm the return of Jack Lowden as River Cartwright, continuing the story of the MI5 agents who work in the intelligence agency’s lowest-ranked department, Slough House.
The new season will begin streaming on Apple TV on September 16, with episodes released weekly on Thursdays. This information comes directly from Apple TV, which also released the first official images from the upcoming season.
The photos show Gary Oldman once again in the role of Jackson Lamb, the leader of Slough House. Lamb is known for being rude, messy, and very good at his job even if he does not look like it. Jack Lowden appears again as River Cartwright, a former field agent who has been pushed into Slough House after a career mistake. Their complicated working relationship remains a key part of the series.

Other cast members also appear in the newly released images. These include Kristin Scott Thomas, Tom Brooke, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Lenny Rush, and Christopher Chung. The wider cast returning for season six includes Rosalind Eleazar, Joanna Scanlan, Samuel West, Jonathan Pryce, and Hugo Weaving. The show continues to feature a large ensemble, with many characters working together and often clashing inside the world of British intelligence.

Apple TV also shared a short official description of the new season. It simply says: “The Slow Horses are on the run as Diana Taverner (played by Scott Thomas) embroils them all in a fatally high-stakes game of retaliation and revenge.” This suggests the new season will focus on danger, pressure, and a major conflict involving the team as they try to survive and stay ahead of powerful forces.
Slow Horses is based on the novels by Mick Herron and is produced by See-Saw Films for Apple TV. Since its debut in 2022, the series has become one of the platform’s most successful shows. It has received strong praise from critics and has won six BAFTA TV Awards along with two Emmy Awards. The mix of spy drama, dark humor, and character-driven storytelling has helped the show build a loyal audience.

Season six continues to have a strong production team behind it. Executive producers include Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Julian Stevens, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Adam Randall, Gail Mutrux, Douglas Urbanski, and Gary Oldman himself. The season is adapted for television by Gaby Chiappe, who also serves as co-executive producer. Adam Randall returns as director, continuing his work on the series.
The first five seasons of Slow Horses are already available to stream on Apple TV, giving new viewers a chance to catch up before the next chapter begins.
With its returning cast, new conflict, and familiar mix of tension and dark humor, season six looks set to continue the show’s strong run on the platform, based on information shared by Apple TV.
