“A F–king Nightmare”: Daniel Craig Doesn’t Hold Back on His Least Favorite James Bond Film
Daniel Craig spent 15 years playing James Bond and became one of the most popular actors ever to take on the famous spy role. During that time, he starred in five Bond films, including Casino Royale, Skyfall, Spectre, and No Time to Die. However, not every experience was a positive one.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Craig opened up about one Bond movie that gave him more trouble than any other. The actor did not hold back when discussing 2008’s Quantum of Solace, describing the production as a very difficult experience from start to finish. When asked about the film, Craig simply said it was a “f–king nightmare.”
The biggest problem, according to Craig, was that the movie entered production during the 2007-2008 Writers Guild of America strike. Because of the strike, the film lost access to its writers at a critical point in development.
Craig explained that screenwriter Paul Haggis had worked on the script before joining the strike. Once that happened, the production suddenly found itself without writers and without a completed screenplay.
“Paul Haggis did a pass on the script, then he went off and joined a picket line, and we didn’t have writers, so we didn’t have a script,” Craig said.
Despite those issues, the studio decided to move forward with filming. Looking back now, Craig believes that was a mistake. “We probably should never have gone and started production, but we did,” he admitted.
Because there was no finished script, Craig became much more involved in shaping scenes and dialogue than he normally would have been. Under union rules at the time, actors were allowed to work with directors on scenes during production. As a result, Craig ended up helping write parts of the movie himself. “I ended up writing a lot of that film,” he revealed.

Even though the production faced major story problems, Craig still sees some positives when he looks back on the movie. He praised the action scenes and stunt work, which remain some of the film’s strongest elements.
“There’s some amazing stunt sequences in that, and I’m still bearing the pins to prove it,” he said.
The actor was referring to the physical injuries he suffered while making the film. Over the years, Craig has spoken several times about the demanding action scenes in Quantum of Solace and the injuries that came with them.
Still, he believes the movie struggled because the story was never fully developed before cameras started rolling. “The storytelling wasn’t there,” Craig explained. “And that’s the abject lesson: going to start a movie without a script, it’s just … not a good idea.”
Craig continued playing Bond for more than a decade after Quantum of Solace. He eventually wrapped up his run as 007 with 2021’s No Time to Die. The film delivered an emotional ending for his version of the character, with Bond sacrificing himself to save the people he loved.
After leaving the franchise behind, Craig made it clear that he was ready to move on to new projects. Speaking previously about his decision to leave Bond, he said, “I don’t want to go back.”
While Quantum of Solace remains the most difficult chapter of his Bond journey, Craig’s overall legacy as 007 remains one of the most successful in the franchise’s history.
