Louis C.K. Returns With New Netflix Comedy Special ‘Ridiculous’ — Release Date Revealed
Louis C.K. is returning to Netflix with a brand-new stand-up special titled Ridiculous. The streaming service has announced that the comedian’s latest special will arrive on June 30.
Netflix revealed the release date alongside a trailer for the special, giving fans a first look at the material C.K. has been performing over the past year. According to the streamer, the special includes jokes about aging, family, and personal experiences, including a story about helping his elderly father move into a retirement home.
In the trailer, C.K. jokes about the situation involving his father and his family’s decision.
“My sisters and I put him in a home,” C.K. says. “Because he was too old to stop us from putting him in there. He was just too weak to resist being forced.”
The comedian has already tested much of the material featured in Ridiculous during live shows. He spent about a year performing the set before bringing it to the Hollywood Bowl as part of the Netflix Is a Joke festival.
The upcoming special is a notable return for C.K. because it will be his first stand-up release through a major distributor since 2017. After facing misconduct allegations in 2017, the comedian moved away from traditional entertainment companies and released his next specials independently.
C.K. released Sincerely Louis C.K. through his own website in 2020. He followed it with Sorry in 2021, and later released Louis C.K. at The Dolby and Back to the Garden in 2023.
The comedian’s career changed significantly after five women accused him of inappropriate behavior. C.K. later admitted to masturbating in front of women and addressed the situation publicly. In an apology statement, he said he originally believed his actions were acceptable because he had not forced himself on anyone, but later understood the impact of his behavior and the power imbalance involved.
“I wielded that power irresponsibly,” C.K. said in his statement.
The allegations made C.K. one of the most recognized names connected to the early stages of the #MeToo movement. Following the reports, several major companies ended their relationships with him, including Netflix, FX, and HBO. His movie release was also canceled, and his longtime manager stopped representing him.
After staying mostly out of the spotlight for several years, C.K. slowly returned to performing. He began appearing at surprise comedy club shows, which received mixed reactions from audiences. Some fans welcomed his return, while others criticized his comeback.
Despite the controversy surrounding him, C.K. continued releasing new comedy and building an audience through independent projects. His upcoming Netflix special marks a new chapter in his career and brings him back to one of the biggest streaming platforms in entertainment.
Netflix has not shared many details about the full content of Ridiculous, but the trailer suggests the special will feature C.K.’s usual style of personal stories mixed with dark humor and observations about everyday life.
Ridiculous will premiere on Netflix on June 30. The information about the release date and trailer comes from Netflix’s announcement and coverage of the upcoming special.
