Courtney Grace went from delivering breaking news to becoming one of the biggest surprises in Steven Spielberg’s latest sci-fi film, Disclosure Day. While the movie features major stars like Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor, it was Grace’s emotional performance as a news anchor experiencing a world-changing moment that caught the attention of many viewers.

In the film, Grace plays an NBC anchor who takes over the broadcast after whistleblower Daniel, played by O’Connor, and journalist Margaret, played by Blunt, reveal evidence of a decades-long government cover-up involving extraterrestrial life. Her character’s job is to deliver the news to the world, but instead of simply reporting the event, she reacts to it like everyone else watching.

That was what made the scene stand out. Grace was not just playing a journalist reading a script. She was showing the fear, confusion, and wonder of someone discovering something that could change humanity forever.

The former journalist told Variety that the moment was special because it allowed her to experience something she rarely could while working in real news. Her character’s famous line, “You are not alone,” became one of the film’s most emotional moments.

Grace explained, “It was to the individual, but it was to the collective as well. We all have our interpretations of that moment, and I love that.” She added that the scene made her think about “the vastness of creation itself” and how a major discovery could completely change the way people see the world.

Before stepping into acting, Grace spent seven years working as a news anchor. She said that background helped her prepare for the role because she already understood the pressure of speaking to a large audience while staying calm.

According to Grace, director Steven Spielberg and writer David Koepp gave her the perfect opportunity to combine her past and present careers. She said her journalism experience, along with years of acting training, helped her bring authenticity to the role.

“When I sat behind that news desk with that prompter in front of me, it felt like home,” Grace told Variety.

Her journey into acting was not an easy one. Grace revealed that performing was always something she wanted to pursue, but she once convinced herself she was not talented enough. After a difficult childhood audition, she carried that doubt for years before finally deciding to take acting seriously.

She eventually left journalism behind, joined acting classes, and started building a new career. She said the first time she stepped onto a professional set, everything finally made sense.

Now, after receiving praise for Disclosure Day, Grace believes the experience has changed how big she dreams. She said the film taught her to stop limiting herself and to look for stories that truly matter.

Spielberg’s latest film has been praised for focusing on human emotions instead of only the science-fiction spectacle. Grace said that was one of the reasons she connected with the movie so strongly.

“He is extraordinary at being able to take these really big themes and concepts and ground them in the human experience,” she said.

For Grace, the biggest lesson from her breakout moment is simple: be fully present. “You are there to be honest and put everything that you’ve got into that moment,” she explained.

After leaving the newsroom behind, Courtney Grace now finds herself at the center of Hollywood attention, proving that sometimes the biggest career changes can lead to the most unexpected opportunities.
