Sony and Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day is already making a strong impact at the box office even before its release. According to industry reports, the Tom Holland-led sequel directed by Destin Daniel Cretton has achieved the highest first-day advance ticket sales in the past five years.

The film is scheduled to open in cinemas on July 31, placing it in a crowded summer window that comes shortly after Universal’s Christopher Nolan epic The Odyssey, which arrives two weeks earlier. Despite that competition, early demand for Brand New Day suggests strong audience interest in Peter Parker’s return.

Reports indicate that the new film has already outpaced recent major superhero releases in early presales. It is said to have surpassed Disney and Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which opened in 2022 with $187.4 million domestically. It also puts the film in comparison with Spider-Man: No Way Home, which remains one of the biggest box office hits in recent years.

No Way Home previously set a high benchmark for the franchise, with estimated presales reaching around $78 million before its December 2021 release. That film went on to open with $260.1 million domestically and earned more than $600 million worldwide during its opening frame, placing it among the top global debuts of all time. It is currently ranked third for the biggest global opening weekend, behind Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues the story after the events of No Way Home. At the end of that film, Peter Parker’s identity was erased from the memories of those closest to him, including his girlfriend MJ, played by Zendaya. The new film is expected to explore the consequences of that decision and how Peter adjusts to a life where he is once again unknown to the people he loves.

The film’s strong early performance comes despite some production challenges. Tom Holland reportedly suffered an injury during filming, though the release date remained unchanged. The movie is also opening without IMAX screens, which are currently committed to The Odyssey, but this has not slowed early ticket demand.

Director Destin Daniel Cretton commented on the future of the character in an interview with Crew Call, saying, “Is there ever a last Spider-Man? Everyone should go to this [movie] as if it’s the last Spider-Man.” The statement adds to ongoing speculation about whether this installment could mark a turning point for Holland’s version of the character.

With strong presales already in place and high expectations from audiences, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is shaping up to be one of the major theatrical releases of 2026.
