Lionel Messi Joins Spider-Man? New ‘Brand New Day’ Teaser Has Fans Talking
Lionel Messi is getting a surprise connection to the Marvel universe, with the football superstar appearing alongside Spider-Man in a new teaser for the upcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The teaser has quickly caught the attention of fans, as Messi is shown meeting the famous web-slinger in what appears to be a fun promotional moment for the upcoming Marvel Studios movie.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will bring Tom Holland back as Peter Parker, continuing the story after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. The movie is expected to show a very different version of the character, with Peter now living a much more isolated life after Doctor Strange’s spell erased the world’s memory of him.
Peter has spent years protecting New York City as Spider-Man while keeping his identity hidden. The new story will focus on a powerful new threat and a major change involving Peter’s abilities, which could push his powers in a new and dangerous direction.
The upcoming movie is the fourth Spider-Man film connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and follows Spider-Man: No Way Home, which became one of the biggest superhero movies of all time after bringing together different versions of the character.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, known for directing Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The screenplay comes from Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, who worked on the previous MCU Spider-Man movies, along with writer Justin Kuritzkes.
The cast includes Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, Sadie Sink in an undisclosed role, and several returning Marvel characters. Jon Bernthal will return as Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher, while Mark Ruffalo will appear again as Bruce Banner, also known as the Hulk.
The film is expected to take Spider-Man in a more grounded direction. After years of being connected to larger superhero events, the story will focus more on Peter as a solo hero dealing with crime and problems in New York City.
The title comes from the famous 2008 Marvel Comics storyline “Brand New Day,” which changed Spider-Man’s status quo and introduced a new chapter for the character. The filmmakers have suggested that the movie will capture a similar feeling by showing Peter starting over after losing his old life.
Production on Spider-Man: Brand New Day began after years of development. Sony and Marvel started working on another Spider-Man movie after Spider-Man: No Way Home became a huge success, with producer Amy Pascal previously saying the plan was for Holland’s Spider-Man story to continue with a new trilogy.
Filming took place in 2025, with production locations including Glasgow, Scotland, and various locations across England. Studio work was completed at Pinewood Studios.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 31, as part of Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With Tom Holland returning, major Marvel characters joining the story, and now a surprise appearance connected to Lionel Messi, the movie is already becoming one of the most talked-about superhero releases ahead of its debut.
