Will There Be An ‘Enola Holmes 4’? Here’s What We Know So Far

Netflix subscribers just watched ‘Enola Holmes 3‘ land on the platform, and fans are already asking the one question that follows every satisfying franchise entry. Is a fourth outing for the sharp witted teen detective actually happening.

The good news is that nobody involved with ‘Enola Holmes’ seems ready to close the case for good. Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill first played Enola and Sherlock in ‘Enola Holmes,’ which debuted to excellent reviews in 2020, and the franchise has only grown from there heading into this new chapter.

Millie Bobby Brown’s Comments On A Fourth Film

Brown, who stars as Enola and also produces the series, was asked directly about a potential ‘Enola Holmes 4’ while promoting the new film. Speaking with ComicBook in an exclusive interview for the film, the outlet asked if a fourth movie was in the cards, and Brown responded that she is not the one making that call, but that she would return if Netflix wanted to move forward and if Louis Partridge was also on board.

That kind of answer is fairly typical for an actor who does not control greenlight decisions, but it is also far from a no. Brown has clearly stayed invested in Enola as a character across three films now, and her willingness to keep going matters when studios weigh whether to commission another installment.

Costar Himesh Patel, who plays a more prominent version of Dr. Watson in the new movie, was asked about a different kind of expansion during the same conversation. Patel said he would love a Sherlock focused spinoff and joked that someone should send the interview to Netflix executives, though Brown pushed back a bit on that particular idea, noting she feels the screen already has enough stories centered on men.

Henry Cavill has also weighed in on the franchise’s direction in the past, and his comments line up with keeping the focus on Enola rather than spinning Sherlock off on his own. Between Brown’s investment in the character and Cavill’s sense that the story belongs to his sister, the pieces still seem to point toward continuing forward together rather than splitting apart.

Enola Holmes 3’s Streaming Numbers And Reception

Any conversation about a fourth movie eventually comes back to performance, and the ‘Enola Holmes’ franchise has a strong track record on that front. The original film built a devoted audience from the moment it arrived, and the sequel reportedly performed even better in its opening days.

Critically, the series has also held up well. The first two films scored highly with critics, and ‘Enola Holmes 3’ arrived with plenty of anticipation built around its new setting in Malta and its more mature storyline involving Enola’s wedding plans and Sherlock’s disappearance.

Netflix typically does not rush to announce sequels the moment a new film drops, preferring to let viewership data settle in over the following weeks. Given how the first two entries performed once those numbers came in, there is reason to think the streamer will be watching ‘Enola Holmes 3’ closely before making any decisions about what comes next.

Plenty Of Source Material Still Untouched

Part of what makes another sequel plausible is simply how much story is left to adapt. The franchise draws from Nancy Springer’s book series, which extends well beyond what the three films have covered so far. ‘Enola Holmes 3’ drew loosely from the tone of one of the later novels rather than following it exactly, which suggests the filmmakers still have flexibility in how future stories get shaped.

That gives Netflix and the creative team plenty of room to keep adapting new mysteries for Enola without running out of material anytime soon. For a franchise built around a teenage detective solving one case after another, having a deep well of books to pull from is a real advantage when it comes to planning ahead.

Jack Thorne, who has written the scripts across the franchise, clearly still has plenty to work with if Netflix does decide to move forward. That continuity in the writers room is often a good sign for a franchise’s long term prospects.

When Enola Holmes 4 Could Realistically Happen

Even if Netflix does greenlight another chapter, patience will likely be required. The gap between the first and second films was about two years, while the wait between the second and third stretched close to four years, largely because Brown was tied up filming the final season of ‘Stranger Things.’

With that commitment now behind her, Brown’s schedule has considerably more flexibility than it did during the production of ‘Enola Holmes 3.’ That alone could shorten the wait for a fourth film compared to the gap fans just experienced, assuming Netflix moves relatively quickly with an official order.

There is still no confirmed script, director, or production timeline for ‘Enola Holmes 4’ as of now, so anything beyond speculation would be getting ahead of the actual announcement. What does seem clear is that the door remains open, and both the cast and the streaming numbers so far suggest Netflix has every incentive to walk through it.

For now, all eyes are on how ‘Enola Holmes 3’ performs in its first weeks of release, since that data will likely shape whatever Netflix decides next. What mystery would you want to see Enola tackle if a fourth film actually gets the green light?
