Sadie Sink Reveals What It Was Like Joining ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’
Sadie Sink is opening up about her experience joining the Marvel universe and stepping into the world of Spider-Man. In a new interview with NYLON Magazine, the actress spoke about landing a role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day alongside Tom Holland and what it was like entering one of Hollywood’s biggest franchises.
Sink explained that joining the Spider-Man universe was a completely different experience from anything she had done before. While she already had years of fame from Stranger Things and major theater roles, she said Marvel operates on another level.
“I knew Marvel was a big deal, but it feels really big. These blockbuster movies are a whole different beast,” Sink told NYLON.
The actress’ role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been kept mostly secret, with Marvel keeping details about her character under wraps. Sink revealed that she was offered the part without an audition after previously working with director Destin Daniel Cretton on the 2017 film The Glass Castle. She also said she did not receive the script until she arrived in London for production.
Despite joining such a massive franchise, Sink said she did not feel overwhelmed because she had experience dealing with intense fan attention from Stranger Things. After nearly a decade playing Max Mayfield, she knows how to handle theories, rumors, and keeping major details private.
“You just don’t share the secret, it’s not that hard,” Sink joked while discussing keeping Marvel information confidential.
One of the biggest surprises for Sink was seeing the scale of the Spider-Man fanbase. She admitted that she understood the popularity of the franchise before joining, but being part of it gave her a new perspective.
“I know there’s a huge fan base, but it feels really big,” she said. “I think these blockbuster movies are a whole different beast.”
Sink also praised her co-star Tom Holland, saying he helped make the transition into the Marvel world much easier. She described entering the franchise as being an outsider at first but said Holland and the entire crew welcomed her immediately.
“It was interesting stepping into that space and being a little bit of an outsider in that way, but he could not have been more welcoming, and just the whole crew in general,” Sink told NYLON. She added that Holland was “so relaxed and open” and helped her feel comfortable on set.
The Spider-Man role comes during a major career moment for Sink. After finishing Stranger Things, the actress has been exploring new challenges, including returning to theater. Her performance in John Proctor Is the Villain earned her a Tony Award nomination, and she later starred in the West End production of Romeo & Juliet.
For Sink, joining Spider-Man represents another new chapter. While she has experience with massive productions, she said the Marvel experience introduced her to a different kind of filmmaking, with larger audiences and bigger expectations.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is expected to continue the story of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker and will mark Sink’s introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although fans are still waiting to learn more about her character, Sink’s comments suggest she is ready for the next major step in her career.
