Lionsgate Sets 4K UHD Blu-Ray Release for Box Office Smash ‘Michael’

According to Lionsgate Home Entertainment, the box office hit biopic Michael is getting a full home release across multiple formats, including 4K UHD Blu-Ray, Blu-Ray, DVD, and digital platforms. The release date is set for July 14, 2026, and will include both standard editions and special collector versions, including Amazon and Walmart-exclusive SteelBooks as well as a Lionsgate Limited collectible edition with a photo book.

The film is currently available on premium video-on-demand, but this new physical release marks the next major rollout for the title after its strong theatrical run. Lionsgate is positioning the release as a premium home entertainment package, with upgraded sound, visuals, and bonus content designed for fans who want a deeper look at the film.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, Michael tells the story of the life and legacy of Michael Jackson. The film explores his journey from his early years as the lead of The Jackson 5 to becoming one of the most influential and globally recognized performers in music history. It also highlights key moments from his early solo career and includes dramatized recreations of some of his most famous performances.

The cast includes Jaafar Jackson in the role of Michael Jackson. He is joined by Nia Long, Juliano Valdi, KeiLyn Durrel Jones, Laura Harrier, Miles Teller, and Colman Domingo. The film focuses not only on Jackson’s career on stage, but also on his personal life behind the scenes, including his time at home and the pressures of global fame.

The official synopsis describes the film as a broad look at his life and career, stating: “Michael is the cinematic portrayal of the life and legacy of one of the most influential artists the world has ever known. The home release will include a wide range of bonus features. According to Lionsgate, the 4K UHD and Blu-Ray editions will come with Dolby Atmos audio and behind-the-scenes material that explores how the film was made. Special features include documentaries like Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough: The Making of Michael and Home Is Where His Heart Is: Behind the Gates of Hayvenhurst.

There are also several time-lapse featurettes under the segment In the Mirror, which show the transformation process for key moments in the film, including Billie Jean, Thriller, Off the Wall, and scenes involving Joe Jackson. Additional content includes First Look, Becoming Michael, Before the Big Screen, and On the Set of Michael, along with trailers.

With its mix of premium formats and extensive bonus content, the release is being positioned as a major home entertainment event for fans of the film. Lionsgate is clearly aiming to extend the film’s reach beyond theaters and PVOD, offering collectors and audiences a detailed behind-the-scenes look at its production and performances.

As the July 14 release date approaches, Michael is expected to continue its strong presence across both digital and physical platforms, further expanding its reach after its successful box office run.
