‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Is About to Make Box Office History All over Again
Superhero movies rarely stay quiet for long, but few have dominated a single summer quite like Sony and Marvel’s latest web-slinging blockbuster. Since its July 31 debut, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ has spent nearly every week rewriting the domestic box office record book, and the pace has shown almost no signs of slowing down.
Tom Holland’s fourth solo outing as Spider-Man, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and also starring Zendaya, Sadie Sink and Jon Bernthal, opened to a record-breaking $360 million weekend that outpaced even ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ From there, the film has methodically climbed the all-time domestic charts, overtaking milestone after milestone that once seemed untouchable for a modern comic book movie.
Now the film is closing in on its next major benchmark. According to updated Friday numbers, ‘Brand New Day’ pulled in $5.5 million domestically, a 96% jump from Thursday, putting it firmly on track to become the fastest film in history to cross the $900 million mark at the domestic box office.
That would be another staggering achievement for a movie that has already outpaced legendary competition at nearly every turn. ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ remains the only film ever to top $900 million domestically, a feat it accomplished across 50 days back in 2015, and ‘Brand New Day’ has been running weeks ahead of that pace since its early days in theaters.
The film’s box office trajectory has been staggering from the start. It became the fastest movie ever to reach $700 million domestically, doing so in just 13 days, before going on to become the fastest to hit $800 million in 19 days, a run that pushed it past both ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’ on the all-time domestic chart.
Globally, the numbers are just as remarkable. ‘Brand New Day’ has already crossed $2 billion worldwide, making it the eighth film in history to reach that mark and Sony’s highest-grossing release ever, surpassing ‘No Way Home’s $1.9 billion global haul.
Much of that momentum has been fueled by strong audience turnout well into its fourth weekend, an unusually long tail for a summer blockbuster typically expected to front-load its earnings. Industry trackers have also pointed to counterprogramming benefits, with the film continuing to post outsized numbers even as new releases entered the marketplace.

There’s also chatter that an expanded theatrical cut featuring additional footage could hit screens over Labor Day weekend, potentially giving the film another box office bump as it chases the $900 million milestone and beyond. Whether that extended version materializes or not, ‘Brand New Day’ has already cemented itself among the biggest theatrical events in years.
With a $225 million production budget and a cast led by Holland, Zendaya, Sink and Bernthal, the film’s commercial success adds yet another chapter to Spider-Man’s reputation as one of the most bankable franchises in Hollywood. If the current pace holds, ‘Brand New Day’ won’t just beat ‘The Force Awakens’ to $900 million, it could redefine what’s possible for a modern theatrical release entirely.
