‘Fire Country’ and ‘Sheriff Country’ Are Teaming Up Again, and This Crossover Sounds Even Bigger

CBS has quietly built one of its strongest procedural pairings in years with ‘Fire Country‘ and its spin-off ‘Sheriff Country,’ two shows that share a universe, a family of characters, and an appetite for high-stakes disaster storytelling. Since the spin-off launched, the network has leaned into crossover events as a way to reward loyal viewers of both shows with something that feels bigger than a standard episode.

That strategy paid off in a major way earlier this year, when the two series delivered their first-ever crossover centered on a school bus explosion and a search for nine missing teens. Showrunner Matt Lopez described that outing as one continuous story told across two hours, and the response from fans was strong enough that CBS wasted no time greenlighting a follow-up.

Now that follow-up has a date. CBS has officially set a new two-hour crossover event between ‘Fire Country’ Season 5 and ‘Sheriff Country’ Season 2, airing November 6, marking the fifth episode of each series’ new season.

The two-part event splits into distinct but connected hours. “No Way In” kicks off the night from 8:00 to 9:00 PM ET/PT, following Sheriff Mickey Fox as a dangerous prison break spirals into a hostage crisis, forcing her into a high-stakes decision with personal consequences. That leads directly into “No Way Out” from 9:00 to 10:00 PM, where Bode and the Station 42 crew join forces with Mickey’s department as the escaped convicts trigger a full-scale manhunt.

Lopez gave Deadline a detailed look at how the crossover’s stakes escalate, teasing that the emergency lands squarely on a chaotic day for Edgewater. “There’s a situation that arises on the day of a spectacular windstorm and fire event,” Lopez told Deadline. He went on to describe how resources get stretched thin across both departments, forcing Mickey and Manny into a tense push-and-pull as leaders trying to manage overlapping crises with real personal stakes attached.

That structural approach mirrors what worked so well the first time around. Lopez has confirmed the new crossover will again function as one continuous story, transitioning seamlessly from ‘Sheriff Country’ directly into ‘Fire Country’ without a credits break in between, the same technique that made April’s event feel more like a feature film than two separate episodes stitched together.

Guest appearances will flow in both directions once again. Max Thieriot, Kevin Alejandro, and Jules Latimer are set to guest star during the ‘Sheriff Country’ portion, while Morena Baccarin, Matt Lauria, Michele Weaver, Amanda Arcuri, and Ian Quinlan cross over into ‘Fire Country’ for the back half of the event.

Production is also pushing the visual scale further this time, with the crossover reportedly leaning on practical explosions rather than relying entirely on CGI, and the ‘Fire Country’ portions filmed in Vancouver. Before the crossover even arrives, ‘Sheriff Country’ Season 2 kicks off with its own hook, bringing in Ben McKenzie as Wade, a neighboring sheriff who shows up in Edgewater hiding secrets of his own.

Both series return for their new seasons on October 9, giving fans just under a month to catch up before the crossover storyline kicks into gear. With CBS clearly viewing the format as a proven ratings winner, and Lopez openly framing this new outing as an escalation rather than a repeat, expectations are already running high for what’s shaping up to be the network’s biggest ‘Fire Country’ universe event yet.
