“Lioness” Season 3, Episode 6 Recap & Ending Explained: Who Is Behind Joe’s Kidnapping?

Episode 6 of Special Ops: Lioness Season 3 picks up on the sixth day of Joe McNamara’s abduction, with Kaitlyn Meade and Kyle racing against a rapidly closing window to bring her home alive.

In the past timeline, the fallout from exposing widespread foreign infiltration in Washington accelerates. FBI “sting operations” serve as a cover story for a wave of arrests among members of Congress. Mullins, Meade, Byron, and Joe confront Senator Olson over breakfast, having confirmed he took campaign funding tied to the same enemy network they’ve been hunting. He’s given two choices: resign quietly or wait to be arrested publicly by the DOJ. Joe coldly reminds him there’s a third option. Unable to bring himself to warn his wife or step down amid a news cycle already fixated on suspicious resignations, Olson ultimately chooses that third path — driving himself into oncoming traffic rather than face public disgrace.

Earlier, Kyle had argued that WitPro wasn’t safe enough for Oleksa, the SVR double agent who’d been their key informant, and pushed to bring her in-house at the CIA instead. Mullins agreed — then tasked Kyle himself with locating her. Months later, that assignment becomes essential: with Joe still missing, Kyle tracks Oleksa down and visits her for insight into the abduction. Together they realize the operation doesn’t match Russian tradecraft at all. Their new theory: Iranian operatives are actually behind Joe’s kidnapping, using Russian assets as cover.

Armed with that intel, the team pivots. Oleksa points them toward the kidnappers’ likely safe houses. Randy and Tex canvass the neighborhood; Kyle and his Delta Force contacts hunt for the specific aircraft the Iranians would need for an extraction; Cruz and the rest stand by as backup once Joe’s location is confirmed.

Kyle’s team gets there first — narrowing down the getaway plane by its required specs, locating the hangar, and taking the pilot and his accomplices into custody with relatively little resistance.

The rescue effort has a cruel twist: Randy and Tex are searching the very neighborhood where Joe is actually being held — they just don’t know it. Inside the safe house, Joe finally comes face-to-face with Babat, the man orchestrating her kidnapping, who promises her a brutal fate once she’s out of the country. Before the episode ends, he mutilates part of her foot and moves her again, setting up an alternate escape route.

The episode closes with the team having won a tactical battle (capturing the plane and its crew) but still losing the war for Joe — she remains in enemy hands, now facing an even more desperate situation with her captors improvising a new way to get her out of the country.

With two episodes left before the September 20 finale, the next installment will need to answer whether the team can locate Joe’s new escape route before Babat succeeds in getting her out of U.S. airspace for good.
