Apple TV Might Not Be Done with ‘Silo’ After All, with a Rumored Spinoff in Development, Despite the Author’s Denial

Apple TV has quietly built one of streaming’s most reliable sci-fi hits with ‘Silo‘, turning Hugh Howey’s underground dystopia into appointment viewing across multiple seasons. As the series heads toward its confirmed ending, fans have understandably started wondering whether this really is the last we’ll see of Howey’s claustrophobic, secret-laden world.

That uncertainty has only grown louder in recent months, especially with production wrapped and the countdown to the show’s finale officially underway. Streaming platforms rarely walk away from a franchise this successful without at least exploring ways to keep it alive.

Now, a new report suggests Apple may already be doing exactly that. According to Apple TV insider Sigmund Judge, ‘Silo’s upcoming fourth and final season will reportedly be followed by an expansion or spinoff project at Apple TV, one said to be entering pre-production later this year.

Judge claims the new project will tie directly into Howey’s highly anticipated Silo 40 book trilogy, a series of novels expected to publish next summer that explores one of the most mysterious underground structures in the author’s expansive universe. If accurate, that would mean Apple is moving on a screen adaptation before the source material has even hit shelves.

Adding weight to the claim, Judge has pointed to physical evidence on the ground: the main sets used throughout the series have reportedly remained standing since Season 4 wrapped filming back in March, nearly six months ago. Given that studios typically dismantle expensive sets once a production has no further use for them, their continued existence suggests Apple may be planning to return to that same space.

Judge has also stated that hiring for the alleged upcoming project has already begun, adding another layer of specificity to a report that otherwise remains unconfirmed by Apple itself. The streamer has made no official statement acknowledging any spinoff, and its public position continues to be that ‘Silo’ concludes with Season 4.

Complicating matters further, Howey himself has pushed back on the rumor directly. Responding to Judge’s original post on Threads, the author wrote, “Yo, this is news to me. So probably not true,” casting doubt on the claim from the one person who would presumably know if a new project tied to his unpublished trilogy was already in motion.

Judge, for his part, didn’t back down, responding to Howey’s denial by writing, “I appreciate you wanting to keep a surprise,” while adding a note of admiration for the author’s body of work. That exchange has left fans parsing the back-and-forth for clues, unsure whether Howey’s denial reflects genuine surprise or a deliberate effort to protect an announcement still in the works.

A potential ‘Silo’ spinoff would also fit neatly into Apple TV’s broader strategy of expanding its science-fiction library, following similar moves with ‘Star City’ within the ‘For All Mankind’ universe and another project connected to the ‘Monarch’ franchise. Given how central ‘Silo’ has become to Apple’s original programming slate, continuing the story beyond its planned ending would hardly be a surprising business decision.

For now, everything about a potential spinoff remains speculative, built on insider reporting, standing sets, and a public denial that hasn’t fully closed the door on the idea. Whether Apple confirms anything official likely depends on how development progresses in the months ahead, particularly once Howey’s new trilogy gets closer to publication.

With Season 4 still on the way and a possible expansion already generating buzz, ‘Silo’ fans have plenty to speculate about long before the vault finally closes on this chapter of the story.
