‘Casino Royale’ Is Heading Back to Theaters for a Special 20th Anniversary Celebration

Franchise reboots rarely land as successfully as the one that introduced audiences to a very different kind of James Bond back in 2006. Trading gadgets and quips for something grittier and more grounded, that film reshaped what the character could be for an entire generation of moviegoers.

Individual theater listings have begun confirming specific engagement dates, with some markets already scheduling screenings for the first week of October. The re-release carries the film’s original rating for intense action violence, a torture sequence, and sexual content, maintaining the harder edge that helped distinguish ‘Casino Royale’ from the Bond films that preceded it back in 2006.

‘Casino Royale’ follows Bond shortly after earning his license to kill, as he’s sent to take down Le Chiffre, a private financier bankrolling terrorist organizations, by beating him in a high-stakes poker game. Directed by Martin Campbell, the film starred Craig alongside Eva Green, Judi Dench, Jeffrey Wright, Giancarlo Giannini, and Mads Mikkelsen as the film’s central villain.
